Rollover Protection







Rollover Protection

Removing






Follow the safety precautions for the rollover protection. Refer to => [ Rollover Protection Safety Precautions ] Rollover Protection Safety Precautions.

- Open the convertible top until the displayed position of the top and the convertible top compartment cover is reached.

- Support the convertible top with a suitable wood stick.

- Disconnect the Ground (GND) cable on the battery.

- Remove the left and right rear head restraints. Refer to => [ Rear Headrest ] Rear Headrest.

- Remove left and right side cushions. Refer to => [ Side Upholstery ] Side Upholstery.

- Remove the front convertible top compartment trim. Refer to => [ Front Convertible Top Compartment Trim ] Front Convertible Top Compartment Trim.

- Remove the left and right lock on the rear seat backrest. Refer to => [ Rear Seat Backrest Lock ] Rear Seat Backrest Lock.

- Remove the front luggage compartment floor covering. Refer to => [ Front Luggage Compartment Covering ] Front Luggage Compartment Covering.

- Remove left and right luggage compartment trim panels. Refer to => [ Luggage Compartment Side Trim ] Luggage Compartment Side Trim.

- Remove the left and right rear belt anchors. Refer to => [ Rear Belt Anchor ] Rear Belt Anchor.

- Remove the variable convertible top compartment enclosure. Refer to => [ Variable Convertible Top Compartment Enclosure ] Variable Convertible Top Compartment Enclosure.

- Remove the left and right rear door control modules (J388) / (J389).

- Remove the rear parking aid warning buzzer (H15).

- Remove the left and right guide rails for the variable convertible top compartment enclosure. Refer to => [ Guide Rail, Variable Convertible Top Compartment Enclosure ] Guide Rail, Variable Convertible Top Compartment Enclosure.

- Open the release - arrow -, pull out the connector and disconnect the connectors on the left and right side of the rollover protection - 1 -.






- Mark the installation position of the rollover protection as shown in the following illustrations:






Lower threaded connection on the crossmember - arrows -.

Left and right front threaded connection on the side panel - arrow -.






Threaded connection in the convertible top compartment - arrow -.













Loosen only those screws shown in the illustration.

Never remove the support panels from the rollover protection.

- Remove the screws in sequence - 5 through 1 -.

- Loosen the screw - 6 - just 1/2 turn.

- Remove the rollover protection from the vehicle with a second technician.

Installing

- Install the rollover protection into the body and line it up with the markings made earlier during the removal.

If the rollover protection is being connected to body parts, which were replaced or realigned, then the rollover protection must be measured again. Refer to => [ Rollover Protection in Body, Measuring ] Rollover Protection In Body, Measuring.

Further installation is performed in reverse sequence of removal, but observe the following:

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

- If the rollover protection had to be removed because of an accident, then the bolts for the rollover protection must be replaced.

Make sure no one is standing near the rollover protection when reconnecting the battery. Stand at least 1 meter away.

- Connect the GND cable on the battery.

- ALWAYS perform an output diagnostic test under "Guided Functions" after repairing the rollover protection and only after all work procedures are completed (also if a new rollover protection was installed).
