Rollover Protection In Body, Measuring
Rollover Protection in Body, Measuring
If the rollover protection is being connected to body parts, which were replaced or realigned, then the rollover protection must be measured again.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Spacing Laser (VAS 6350/2) from the Calibration Tool (VAS 6350)
• Metal ruler, at least 1,500 mm long
• Measuring tape
Procedure
Follow the safety precautions for the rollover protection. Refer to => [ Rollover Protection Safety Precautions ] Rollover Protection Safety Precautions.
• Rear lid installed and adjusted to specification.
- Disconnect the Ground (GND) cable on the battery.
- Install the rollover protection into the body.
- Install the rollover protection screws hand-tight.
Measure the rollover protection diagonally to direction of travel.
- Cover the areas on the side panel to the left and right of the rollover protection with webbed tape- 1 and 3 -.
- Lay the metal ruler - 2 - on the left and right side and on the back of the rollover protection as illustrated.
• The convertible top compartment is not shown in the illustration.
- Place the (VAS 6350/2) on the metal ruler - 1 - as illustrated, and measure the space - a - between the side panel and the aluminum mount - 2 - for the rollover protection; for using the (VAS 6350/2) the operation instructions.
- The following must be assured to prevent an incorrect measurement:
• Place the metal ruler on the rollover protection on the left and right sides.
• The (VAS 6350/2) must contact the entire length of the metal ruler - 1 - and of the side panel.
- Repeat the measurement on the opposite side of the vehicle.
• The distance - a - must be the same on both sides.
- Align the rollover protection accordingly.
Measure the rollover protection in the driving direction
• In order to align the rollover protection, a reference dimension must be made on the rear lid.
- Cover the area on the rear lid with tape to protect the paint - 1 -.
- Place the measuring tap on the front point - arrow - of the rear lid and mark dimension - a -.
• Dimension - a - = 129 mm.
- Make a plumb line from dimension - a - straight to the front edge of the rear lid and mark dimension - b -.
• Dimension - b - = 352 mm.
- Mark the cutting point between dimension - b - and the front edge of the rear lid with a felt pen - arrow -.
• The felt pen point on the front edge of the rear lid represents the measuring point for the following measurements.
- Make a measuring point in the same way on the opposite of the vehicle.
- Adjust the (VAS 6350/2) so that its rear edge can be used as a reference surface for measuring. Refer to the operating instructions.
- Place the (VAS 6350/2) straight and full surface on the rollover protection aluminum mount as illustrated.
- Measure the distance to the measuring point (felt-tip pen mark) - arrow - on the front edge (dimension - c -).
- Repeat the measurement on the opposite side of the vehicle.
• Dimension - c - on both sides = 539 mm.
- Align the rollover protection accordingly.
- If the rollover protection had to be removed because of an accident, then the bolts for the rollover protection must be replaced.
- Tighten the rollover protection screws.
Make sure no one is standing near the rollover protection when reconnecting the battery. Stand at least 1 meter away.
- Connect the GND cable on the battery.
- ALWAYS perform an output diagnostic test under "Guided Functions" after repairing the rollover protection and only after all work procedures are completed (also if a new rollover protection was installed). Refer to Vehicle diagnostic tester.
