Instrument Panel







Instrument Panel

Removing

- Switch off ignition.

- Remove the gearshift mechanism trim. Refer to => [ Gearshift Mechanism Trim ] Gearshift Mechanism Trim.

- Remove the storage compartment/ashtray unit. Refer to => [ Storage Compartment/Ashtray Unit ] Storage Compartment/Ashtray Unit.

- Remove the front A/C display control head (E87) together with the Climatronic control module (J255).

- Remove the vent in the center console.

- Remove the rear trim of the center console. Refer to => [ Rear Center Console Trim ] Rear Center Console Trim.

- Remove center console. Refer to => [ Center Console ] Center Console.

- Remove the side instrument panel trims. Refer to => [ Side Instrument Panel Covers ] Side Instrument Panel Covers.

- Remove the center A-pillar trims. Refer to => [ Center A-Pillar Trim ] Center A-Pillar Trim.

- Remove the upper A-pillar trims. Refer to => [ Upper A-Pillar Trim ] Upper A-Pillar Trim.

- Remove the footwell covers. Refer to => [ Footwell Covers ] Footwell Covers.

- Remove the left instrument panel trim on the driver side. Refer to => [ Driver Side Left Instrument Panel Trim ] Driver Side Left Instrument Panel Trim.

- Remove the right instrument panel trim on the driver side. Refer to => [ Front Passenger Side Right Instrument Panel Trim ] Front Passenger Side Right Instrument Panel Trim.

- Remove the center storage compartment in the instrument panel. Refer to => [ Instrument Panel Center Storage Compartment Trim ] Instrument Panel Center Storage Compartment Trim.

- Remove the front information display control head control module.

- If present in the glove compartment, remove the information electronics control module 1 (J794).

- Remove the glove compartment lamp (W6) with the glove compartment lamp switch (E26).

- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to => [ Glove Compartment ] Glove Compartment.

- Remove driver airbag unit. Refer to => [ Driver Airbag ] Driver Airbag.

- Remove the steering wheel.

- Remove the steering column trim. Refer to => [ Steering Column Trim ] Steering Column Trim.

- Remove the steering column switch.

- Remove the instrument trim. Refer to => [ Instrument Trim ] Instrument Trim.

- Remove the instrument housing trim. Refer to => [ Instrument Housing Cover ] Instrument Housing Cover.

- Remove the instrument cluster.

- Remove the light switch (E1).

- Disconnect the harness connector from the access/start authorization switch (E415)

Electrostatic discharges can lead to unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore, the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before disconnecting the ignition and ground wiring. This is done, for example, by briefly touching the vehicle body or the door striker pin.

- Disconnect the harness connector from the front passenger airbag - arrow - and unscrew the bolts - 1 - and - 2 - (8 Nm).






- Unscrew the 2 bolts - 1 - (1.5 ± 0.2 Nm).

- Unscrew the 2 bolts - 3 - (8 ± 1.2 Nm).

- Detach the bracket - 2 - in the upper area from the guide and remove.






- Unscrew the bolts - 1 - through - 10 -.






- Pull the instrument panel slightly into the vehicle interior and remove the sunlight photo sensor (G107) or sunlight photo sensor 2 (G134).

- Disconnect the electrical harness connectors according to the vehicle equipment.

2 technicians are needed to remove the instrument panel.

- Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle interior and lay it on a soft surface.

Installation

- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.

- When installing the instrument panel, the bolts must be installed in sequence - 1 - through - 10 -.

The tightening specification is 1.5 Nm.
