Removing
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Pyrotechnic, Electrical and Mechanical Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and Testing Procedures ] Testing and Inspection.
• Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
Adjust the front seat so that it is in the highest position. This reduces the spring force when removing and installing the torsion bar and the risk of damaging the threaded connections between upper/lower frames of the seat pan.
- Remove the front seat. Refer to => [ Power Standard Seat/Sport Seat/Super Sport Seat ] Power Standard Seat/Sport Seat/Super Sport Seat.
- Remove backrest. Refer to => [ Backrest ] Backrest.
- Remove seat cover with seat cushion. Refer to => [ Seat Cover with Seat Cushion for Multi-contour Seat ] Seat Cover With Seat Cushion For Multi-Contour Seat.
- Disconnect the electrical connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.
- Remove seat position sensor from the lower frame. - Unclip the electrical wire from the seat pan lower frame and set aside.
- Remove the bolts - 4 -.
- Detach retaining plate - 3 - on the seat pan lower frame - arrow - and remove.
Danger of damaging the threaded holes or the bushing in the bearing points (connecting upper/ lower frame).
• A second technician is needed to be pushing on the seat via the backrest while removing the following screws.
- Remove upper frame bolts - 1, 5, 6 - - 2 - from the lower frame - 7 -.
Risk of damage to the bushings - 1 - in the bearing points - 2 - (upper/lower threaded connection).
• The bushings cannot be replaced with workshop materials.
• If the bushings are damaged, the corresponding assembly parts must be replaced.
- Remove front belt latch. Refer to => [ Front Belt Latch with Belt Switch E24/E25 ] Front Belt Latch With Belt Switch E24/E25.
- Remove the memory seat/steering column adjustment control module (J136) / (J521). Refer to => [ Front Trim Bracket, Compressor and Multicontour Seat Control Module ] Front Trim Bracket, Compressor and Multicontour Seat Control Module.
- Vehicles with seat ventilation: remove the fan for the seat cushion. Refer to => [ Seat Cushion Blower Fan V390/V391 ] Seat Cushion Blower Fan V390/V391.
- Remove depth adjustment motor (V256) / (V257). Refer to => [ Depth Adjustment Motor V256/V257 ] Depth Adjustment Motor V256/V257.
- Remove seat height adjustment motor (V245) / (V246). Refer to => [ Seat Height Adjustment Motor V245/V246 ] Seat Height Adjustment Motor V245/V246.
- Remove seat angle adjustment motor (V243) / (V244). Refer to => [ Seat Angle Adjustment Motor V243/V244 ] Seat Angle Adjustment Motor V243/V244.
- Remove wiring harnesses and individual wires from seat pan upper frame.
Installation

• Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
• Check the safety ground lock for ease of movement. Refer to => [ Checking Safety Ground Lock for Ease of Movement ] Checking Safety Ground Lock For Ease of Movement.
• Observe all measures when installing the front seat. Refer to => [ Power Standard Seat/Sport Seat/Super Sport Seat ] Power Standard Seat/Sport Seat/Super Sport Seat.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
