Oil Pan/Oil Pump Overview
• The oil level must not go above the MAX mark - danger of catalytic converter damage! Checking the oil level. Refer to => [ Oil Level, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.
• If metal shavings or a large quantity of small metal particles are found when repairing an engine, this could indicate that the crankshaft or connecting rod bearings are damaged. To prevent further damage, perform the following steps after the repair:
- Clean the oil passages carefully.
- Replace the oil spray jets.
- Replace the engine oil cooler.
- Replace the oil filter.
1 Oil Level Thermal Sensor (G266)

8 Oil Pump

9 Alignment Sleeve
• For centering the oil pump.
10 Chain Tensioner

• Mark the rotation direction before removing.

19 Upper Oil Pan

22 Oil Intake Pipe
• Clean the strainer if it is contaminated.

• In the oil baffle - item 6 -, mounted permanently.

26 Non-Return Valve

Lower Oil Pan Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification
- Tighten new bolts in 3 passes in sequence - 1 through 20 - as follows:
1 - Tighten the bolts hand tight.
2 - Tighten the bolts to 8 Nm.
3 - Tighten the bolts an additional 45° (1/8) turn.
Upper Oil Pan Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification
- Tighten new bolts in 3 passes in sequence - 1 through 14 - as follows:
1 - Tighten the bolts hand tight.
2 - Tighten the bolts to 15 Nm.
3 - Tighten the bolts an additional 90° (1/4) turn.
