Removing

Perform the following:

- Remove headliner..

For a new frame

- Remove the glass panel for the panorama sliding/tilting sunroof, refer to => [ Glass Panel for Panorama Sliding/Tilting Sunroof ] Glass Panel for Panorama Sliding/Tilting Sunroof.

- Remove the wind deflector. Refer to => [ Wind Deflector ] Wind Deflector.

- Remove the guide rails and the mounting carrier, refer to => [ Guide Rails and Mounting Carrier ] Guide Rails and Mounting Carrier.

- Stick the seal on the windshield firmly to the windshield.

Apply adhesive tape around the borders of the body surfaces for the panorama sliding/tilting sunroof trim as protection from damages caused by paint.

- Make a mark spanning the entire length of the trim traveling outward from the roof pillar on the left and right in the distance - a - = 20 mm.

- Make another marking with a distance of - b - = 20 mm from the windshield outward.

Use a depth stop with the setting at 5 mm due to the narrowness of the opening between the trim and the frame.

- Cut the trim strips along the markings using the window cutter (V.A.G 1561A) - 1 - and the blade, 80 mm in diameter (V.A.G 1561/26) - 2 -.

The adhesive beads for the frame are made accessible by removing the edges on the trim.

For a frame that is going to be used again

- Remove trim. Refer to => [ Trim ] Trim.

- Remove the guide rails and the mounting carrier, refer to => [ Guide Rails and Mounting Carrier ] Guide Rails and Mounting Carrier.

Continue for a new frame and for a reusable frame

- Carefully poke the awl - 1 - (i.e. (V.A.G 1474/2) ) through the bead of adhesive from the inside to the outside as illustrated.

- Thread one of the ends of the cutting wire in the awl and pull it through the adhesive in the vehicle interior.

- Secure a pull handle (V.A.G 1351/1) on both ends of the cutting wire.

- Cut through the adhesive beads on the frame using "sawing" motions and remove the frame.

There are 2 adhesive beads on the front and rear roof crossmembers that require more force.

Separating the adhesive beads is only possible with the help of a second mechanic (one person pulls out while the other pulls inward)

Guide the cutting wire close to the assembly frame so that none of the underlying components become damaged.

Installing

The trim is already attached as are the guide rails and the assembly carriers are installed for a new assembly frame.

For an assembly frame that is being used again, residual material acts as a base for the new adhesive sealing material.

Perform the following:

- Inspect the frame for damages and replace it if necessary.

For a new frame

- Install the wind deflector. Refer to => [ Wind Deflector ] Wind Deflector.

- Install the glass panel. Refer to => [ Glass Panel for Panorama Sliding/Tilting Sunroof ] Glass Panel for Panorama Sliding/Tilting Sunroof.

- Grip the frame with a suction cup on the glass panel.

- Cut back 1 mm of the remaining adhesive bead on the front and rear roof crossmember and on the left and right roof pillar just before installing.

- Clean the adhesive bead areas - 1 - on the frame - 2 - with cleaning solution. Refer to Parts Catalog.

The location of the adhesive beads - 1 - is imprinted in the frame - 2 -.

- Prime the area for the adhesive bead with glass/paint primer (refer to Parts Catalog) and let it dry for 10 minutes.

- Apply the 2K window adhesive on the glass/paint primer. Refer to the Parts Catalog.

The width of the adhesive bead is 7 mm, the height of the adhesive bead is 10 mm.

- Install the frame in the roof opening, center it and secure it with adhesive tape.

- After the minimum curing time elapses , reattach the following components from the previous frame to the new assembly frame:

Electrical drive motor, refer to => [ Motor for Panorama Sliding/Tilting Sunroof Glass Panel ] Motor for Panorama Sliding/Tilting Sunroof Glass Panel

Sun Shade, refer to => [ Sun Shade ] Sun Shade

Sun shade cover, refer to => [ Sun Shade Cover ] Sun Shade Cover

- Install headliner.

For a reusable frame

- Install the guide rails and the mounting carrier, refer to => [ Guide Rails and Mounting Carrier ] Guide Rails and Mounting Carrier.

- Cut back the remaining adhesive bead 1 mm on the frame just before installing.

- Apply 2K window adhesive to the adhesive beads that were cut back on the frame. Refer to => Parts Catalog.

The width of the adhesive bead is 7 mm, the height of the adhesive bead is 10 mm.

- Install the frame in the roof opening, center it and secure it with adhesive tape.

- Install the following components after the minimum curing time has elapsed:

Connect the connector to the electric drive

Headliner.

Minimum Curing Time

For safety reasons, use only the electrically non-conductive 2K window adhesive when installing the frame.

The vehicle can only be used after the minimum curing time has elapsed.
