Diagnostic Routine B

Diagnostic Routine B

Diagnostic Overview

The Cross-Traffic Alert (CTA) System Is Inoperative Or Does Not Operate Correctly

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

REFER to Cross-Traffic Alert System .

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK THE BLIS(R) /CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) LEDs (Light-emitting Diodes) OPERATION

1. Carry out the diagnostic system check.

- Start the engine.
- Observe the left and right exterior mirror BLIS(R) / CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) LEDs (Light-emitting Diodes).

Do the left and right BLIS(R) / CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) LEDs (Light-emitting Diodes) illuminate and turn off after 3 seconds?

2. VERIFY THE CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) SYSTEM OPERATION
NOTE: The CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) system only operates in reverse (R) while backing out of a front-in parking space.

1. Test the CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) system to verify the customer's concern.

Does the CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) system operate correctly?

3. CHECK FOR SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) AND SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) OBSTRUCTIONS

1. Check the lower rear side bumper cover and lower rear bumper cover splash shield for a build up of mud, bumper stickers or any obstruction.

Are any obstructions present?

4. CHECK FOR DAMAGE TO THE LOWER REAR SIDE BUMPER COVER, THE SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) AND SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) MOUNTING BRACKETS

1. Check the lower rear side bumper cover, the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) and SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) mounting brackets for damage.

Is any damage present?

5. VERIFY THE SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) AND SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) PASS THE NETWORK TEST

1. Using a scan tool, perform a network test.

Do the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) and SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) pass the network test?

6. VERIFY THE CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
NOTE: The CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) must be enabled in both the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) and the SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right).

1. Using a scan tool, view programmable parameters.

2. Verify the CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) system is enabled in the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) and SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right).

Is the CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) system enabled?

7. CHECK FOR DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) IN THE SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) AND SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right)

1. Using a scan tool, perform the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) and SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) self-tests.

Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?

8. CHECK THE DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE PAM (Parking Aid Module) SELF-TEST

1. Using a scan tool, perform the PAM (Parking Aid Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) self-test.

Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?

9. CHECK FOR VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL OR PRNDL RELATED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)

1. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.

Are any vehicle speed or PRNDL related DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) present?

10. CHECK FOR CORRECT SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) OPERATION

1. Disconnect and inspect the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) connector.

2. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

3. Reconnect the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

11. CHECK FOR CORRECT SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) OPERATION

1. Disconnect and inspect the SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) connector.

2. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

3. Reconnect the SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
