Oil Pan: Service and Repair




Oil Pan Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.

2. Remove the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement Service and Repair.

3. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture Engine Support Fixture.

4. Remove the engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement Engine Mount Replacement.

5. Lift the engine high as necessary to increase enough space between oil pan and front suspension frame.

6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

7. If equipped, remove the front compartment insulator. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement Service and Repair.

8. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement Service and Repair.

9. Remove the A/C compressor bracket. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Bracket Replacement Air Conditioning Compressor Bracket Replacement.

10. Remove the catalytic converter brace. Refer to Catalytic Converter Brace Replacement (2.4L LEA) Catalytic Converter Brace ReplacementCatalytic Converter Brace Replacement (2.0L LHU) Catalytic Converter Brace Replacement.




11. Disconnect the oil level sensor wiring harness plug (2) from the oil level sensor (1).




12. Remove the 4 gearbox bolts (1) from the gearbox.




13. Remove the long oil pan bolt (3).

14. Remove the 14 short oil pan bolts (2).

Caution:
Pry the oil pan carefully in order to prevent damage to the transaxle case or the oil pan sealing surfaces.

15. Remove the oil pan (1).

16. Remove the oil level sensor from the oil pan. Refer to Engine Oil Level Sensor Replacement Service and Repair.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the oil level sensor to the oil pan. Refer to Engine Oil Level Sensor Replacement Service and Repair.

2. Clean the sealing surfaces.

Note: The complete installation procedure of the lower oil pan should be done in 10 minutes. Do not coat sealing compound on the oil pan bolt bores and threads.




3. Ensure that the oil pan and the sealing surface on the lower crankcase are free of all oil and debris.

4. Apply a 2 mm (0.079 in) bead of suitable sealant (1) around the perimeter of the oil pan and the oil suction port opening. DO NOT over apply the sealant. More than a 2 mm (0.079 in) bead is not required.




5. Install the oil pan (1).

6. Install 14 short oil pan bolts (2) and tighten loosely.

7. Install the long oil pan bolt (3) and tighten loosely.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

8. Tighten the oil pan bolts in a sequence as shown in the graphic above to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).




9. Tighten the 4 gear box bolts (1) to 60 Nm (44 lb ft).




10. Connect the oil level sensor wiring harness plug (2) to the oil level sensor (1).

11. Install the catalytic converter brace. Refer to Catalytic Converter Brace Replacement (2.4L LEA) Catalytic Converter Brace ReplacementCatalytic Converter Brace Replacement (2.0L LHU) Catalytic Converter Brace Replacement.

12. Install the A/C compressor bracket. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Bracket Replacement Air Conditioning Compressor Bracket Replacement.

13. If equipped, install the front compartment insulator. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement Service and Repair.

14. Lower the vehicle.

15. Lower the engine deep as necessary to install the engine mount.

16. Install the engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement Engine Mount Replacement.

17. Remove the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture Engine Support Fixture.

18. Install the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement Service and Repair.

19. Fill up the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement Service and Repair.

20. Recharge the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
