Catalytic Converter Brace Replacement (2.0L LHU)

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Exhaust Service Warning Exhaust Service Warning.


Warning: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Warning Protective Goggles and Glove Warning.


Caution: Refer to Exhaust Flexible Pipe Bending Caution Exhaust Flexible Pipe Bending Caution.

1. Remove the turbocharger heat shield. Refer to Turbocharger Heat Shield Replacement Turbocharger Heat Shield Replacement.

2. Remove the heated oxygen sensor 1. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1 Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1.

3. Remove the heated oxygen sensor 2. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 2 Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 2.




4. Remove the 4 three way catalytic converter nuts (7) from the turbocharger (1).

5. Raise the vehicle.

6. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (2.4L LEA) Catalytic Converter ReplacementCatalytic Converter Replacement (2.0L LHU) Catalytic Converter Replacement.

7. Loosen the 2 three way catalytic converter brace nuts (4).

8. Remove the 2 three way catalytic converter brace bolts (6).

9. Remove the three way catalytic converter (3) along with the three way catalytic converter brace (5).

10. Remove and DISCARD the gasket (2)

11. Remove the three way catalytic converter brace (5) from the three way catalytic converter (3).

Installation Procedure




1. Install a NEW three way catalytic converter gasket (2).

2. Install the three way catalytic converter brace (5) to the three way catalytic converter (3).

3. Install the three way catalytic converter (3) and the three way catalytic converter brace.

4. Install the 2 three way catalytic converter brace bolts (5) and tighten loosely.

5. Lower the vehicle.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

6. Install the 4 three way catalytic converter nuts (7) to the turbocharger (1) and tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).

7. Raise the vehicle.

8. Tighten the 2 three way catalytic converter brace bracket bolts (6) to 58 Nm (43 lb ft).

9. Tighten the 2 three way catalytic converter bracket nuts (4) to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).

10. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (2.4L LEA) Catalytic Converter ReplacementCatalytic Converter Replacement (2.0L LHU) Catalytic Converter Replacement.

11. Install the heated oxygen sensor 2. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 2 Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 2.

12. Install the heated oxygen sensor 1. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1 Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1.

13. Lower and unsupport the vehicle.

14. Install the turbocharger heat shield. Refer to Turbocharger Heat Shield Replacement Turbocharger Heat Shield Replacement.
