Radiator and Fan Shroud






Radiator and Fan Shroud

The radiator and fan shroud can only be removed and installed together.

It is not possible to remove the Air Conditioning (A/C) condenser from the radiator with the refrigerant pipes still connected on new models. This is described under "version 2".

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Used Oil Collection and Extraction Device (V.A.G 1782) for vehicles with S-Tronic transmission 0B5

Engine Bung Set (VAS 6122) for vehicles with S-Tronic transmission 0B5

Drip Tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)

Removing






- Remove the front noise insulation - 1 -.

- Remove the impact member - 5 -.






- Remove the front charge air cooling circuit radiator. Refer to => [ Front Charge Air Cooling Circuit Radiator ] Front Charge Air Cooling Circuit Radiator.

Vehicles with Version 2 Refrigerant Pipes






- Remove the condenser.

Audi A4






- Remove the headlamp housing mount.

All Vehicles






- Place the (VAS 6208) under the engine.

- Remove the drain plug - 1 - and drain the coolant.

- Lift the clip - 2 - and disconnect the coolant hose from the radiator.

- Lift the clamp - arrow - and remove the connection from the radiator.













Danger of personal injury due to the coolant fan turning on by itself.

Disconnect the connectors before working near the fan shroud.

- Disconnect the radiator fan electrical connectors - 1 and 2 -, to do this, push the clamp to the rear - arrow - and push the release down.

Vehicles with S-Tronic Transmission 0B5






- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the disconnection point.

Follow the rules for clean working conditions when working on the transmission. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

- Remove the bolts - arrow - and disconnect the ATF lines from the transmission.

To prevent ATF from leaking, secure all ATF lines to the top of the longitudinal member.

- Seal any open lines and connections with a clean plug from the (VAS 6122).

All Vehicles






- Open the clamps - 1 and 2 - and remove the connection from the radiator.

- Remove the bolts - arrows -.






- Remove the air duct - 1 - from the air filter housing intermediate flange - 2 -.

Vehicles with Hydraulic Power Steering






- If applicable, release the clamps - arrow A - and tilt the power steering coolant hose - 1 - forward - arrow B -.

- Pull the power steering coolant hose upward off the condenser and lay it on the engine.

All Vehicles






- Release the retaining tabs - A arrows - and remove the left and right air ducts - 1 - upward - arrow B -.

- Release the left and right radiator retaining pins and remove by pulling upward - arrows -.






- Remove the left and right bolts - 1 - and remove the radiator bracket with the radiator from the lock carrier - arrow -.






- Lower the radiator slightly.

Vehicles with Version 1 Refrigerant Pipes






There is a risk of damaging the condenser and refrigerant lines and hoses.

Do not stretch, kink or bend refrigerant lines and hoses.

- Have a second technician release the retaining clamps - 1 - in the direction of - arrow A - and remove the condenser - 2 - upward out of the mounts on the radiator - B arrows -.

- Tilt the condenser forward with the refrigerant lines still connected.

All Vehicles

- Remove the radiator.

- Press the fan shroud left and right locking tabs at the same time - arrow - and remove the fan shroud upward from the radiator.






Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Radiator and Coolant Fan Overview ] Radiator and Coolant Fan Overview.

If there are small impressions on the fins, refer to => [ Coolers and Condensers ] Coolers and Condensers.

- Install the air duct on the air filter housing intermediate flange.

- Vehicles with S-Tronic transmission 0B5: Tighten the ATF pipes.

- Connect the coolant hose to the coupling. Refer to => [ Connect the Coolant Hose to the Coupling ] Radiator and Coolant Fan Overview.






- Install the front charge air cooling circuit radiator. Refer to => [ Front Charge Air Cooling Circuit Radiator ] Front Charge Air Cooling Circuit Radiator.

- Audi A4: Install the headlamp housing mount.

- Install condenser.

- Install the impact member.

- Fill with coolant => [ Filling ] Service and Repair.

All of the coolant must be changed if the radiator was replaced.

- Vehicles with S-Tronic transmission 0B5: Check the ATF level.
