ATF Pre-Heater






ATF Pre-Heater

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose Clamps Up to 40 mm (3093)

Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm Dia. (3094)

Hose Clip Pliers (VAS 6362)

Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

Engine Bung Set (VAS 6122)

Protective Goggles

Removing

- Remove the transfer case.

- If present, remove heat shield - 1 - for the coolant lines from the transmission. Remove the bolts - arrows A -.






- Remove the vacuum hose - 1 - from the vacuum pipe - 2 - (leading to the brake booster).






- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the engine/transmission.

- Clamp off the coolant hoses on the left transmission side with (3094).






- Then remove the hose clips from coolant pipes - A -, for example using (V.A.G 1921). Remove the coolant hoses from the coolant pipes.

- Clamp off the coolant hoses on the right transmission side with (3093) and disconnect the coolant hoses from coolant pipes - A -.






- Remove the bleed hose - B - from the clip on the coolant pipe.






- Remove the coolant pipes - A - from the transmission - arrows -.

- Remove the bolts - 1 and 2 - and then remove the ATF pipes from the transmission. Collect the escaping oil.






- Seal the ATF lines with a suitable plug from the (VAS 6122) (to prevent dirt from getting into the lines).

- Remove the ATF pre-heater from the transmission - arrows -.






- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the cooling oil valve (N471) - 2 - and remove the ATF pre-heater and coolant pipes from the transmission.






Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

In the case of a dirty ATF or before installing a replacement transmission, clean the ATF cooler and the ATF lines. Refer to => [ ATF Pipes and Cooler, Cleaning ] ATF Pipes and Cooler, Cleaning.

- Bolt the ATF pre-heater - arrows - to the transmission, install the coolant pipes on the transmission and connect with the coolant hoses.






- Remove the plug and insert the ATF pipes all the way into the transmission.






- Install the ATF pipes. Refer to => [ ATF Pipes and ATF Cooler ] ATF Pipes and ATF Cooler.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Check the ATF level and fill if necessary. Refer to => [ ATF Level Inside Transmission ] ATF Level Inside Transmission.

- Fill with coolant.
