The tapered holes and the contact surfaces on the outer circumference of the wheel bearing must be free of oil, grease and preserving agent.

If necessary, clean using dry rag, do not use cleaning agents

Before assembling, coat contact surface with assembly paste

Always observe tightening specification!

Only remove if vehicle is raised and air spring damper is unloaded (otherwise, there is a risk of injury from lowering vehicle)

Service the air line if there are leaks, refer to => [ Air Line, Servicing ] Description and Operation or replace the connection, refer to => [ Connecting Piece, Replacing ] Description and Operation

Clean connections before loosening

Air escapes when connections are unscrewed

Lower control arm, servicing, refer to => [ Lower Control Arm Bonded Rubber Bushing ] Description and Operation

Conical pin must be free of grease and oil

If necessary, clean using dry rag, do not use cleaning agents

6 Bolt

Always replace if removed

7 Tie Rod

Conical pin must be free of grease and oil

If necessary, clean using dry rag, do not use cleaning agents

8 Self-Locking Nut

90 Nm

Always replace if removed

9 Self-Locking Nut

10 Wheel Bearing

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Wheel Hub and Wheel Bearing ] Wheel Hub and Wheel Bearing

Avoid contaminating with dirt and damaging the seal when setting down/storing.

11 Locking Ring

Check for proper seating

12 Self-Locking Nut

500 Nm

Always replace if removed

Before assembling, coat contact surface with assembly paste

13 Wheel Hub

The wheel bearing - 1 - must always face up.

Always set the wheel bearing unit down on the wheel hub - 2 -.

Wheel Bearing Housing Characteristics






Different versions of the wheel bearing housing were installed in production depending on the model year.

With dimension - x - = 75 mm

or

Dimension - x - = 83 mm

Drive Axle Overview






1 Drive Axle

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Drive Axle ] Drive Axle

2 Clamp

Always replace if removed

Tensioning, refer to => [ Small and Large Clamps, Tightening on Inner or Outer Joint ] Description and Operation

3 Protective Boot

Check for tears and scuffing

4 Clamp

Always replace if removed

Tensioning, refer to => [ Small and Large Clamps, Tightening on Inner or Outer Joint ] Description and Operation

5 Locking Ring

Always replace if removed

Insert in shaft groove

Before installing CV joint, align sealing ring in center with opening facing upward.

6 Outer CV Joint

Replace only as complete unit

Installing: Drive onto shaft until impact using plastic hammer

Before assembling, coat splines using assembly paste

7 Bolt

M10: 50 Nm + 90°

M12: 90 Nm + 90°

Always replace if removed

8 Locking Plate

9 Protective Boot for Inner CV Joint

Check for tears and scuffing
