Supplementary Restraint System (SRS)
Supplementary restraint system (SRS)
Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.
Safety equipment (Supplemental Restraint System (SRS))
Warning! The vehicle is equipped with pyrotechnical SRS components and seat belt tensioner. The components in the SRS system must be treated very carefully during repair to avoid:
- personal injury when carrying out repairs
- damage to or malfunction of the SRS (supplemental restraint system) system.
Warning! Work on SRS (supplemental restraint system) systems must always be carried out by a qualified workshop.

1. The front seat belts and seat belt tensioners with seat belt reel sensors
See: Front safety belt retractor Front Safety Belt Retractor and: Load limiter, seat belt Service and Repair.
2. Collision sensor SRS system
The collision sensors for the SRS system are located in the B and C-posts.
3. Driver's airbag (SRS)
The driver's airbag (SRS) is unlocked in 2 stages. When working on the steering wheel, steering shaft or steering gear, certain operations must be carried out according to the methods for working on the driver's airbag.
See: Driver's airbag Driver's Airbag.
4. Steering column
The steering column has a pyrotechnical tensioner.
See: Steering column Service and Repair.
5 and 6. Collision sensor SRS system
See: Collision sensor Collision Sensor.
7. Passenger airbag (SRS)
The passenger airbag (SRS) is unlocked in two stages.
See: Airbag, passenger side Airbag, Passenger Side.
8. Supplemental restraint system control module (SRS)
The supplemental restraint system module (SRS) is between the parking brake and the gear selector lever in the center console.
Warning! Never install vehicle accessories on or near the supplemental restraint system module (SRS).
See: Air bag supplemental restraint system Service and Repair.
9. Occupant weight sensor (OWS)
The passenger seat occupant weight sensor (OWS) is in the foam in the passenger seat cushion.
See: Front passenger weight sensor Removal and Replacement.
10. Seat track sensor (STS)
The seat position sensor (STS) is a magnetic sensor that detects the position of the seat.
See: Front seat position sensor Front Seat Position Sensor.
11. Belt tensioner sensor (BTS)
12. Airbag module seat (SIPS)
See: Air bag, front seat Air Bag, Front Seat.
13. Buckle seat belt
See: Front safety belt buckle Front Safety Belt Buckle.
14. Rear seat belts with seat belt tensioners
See: Seat belt retractor, rear Seat Belt Retractor, Rear.
15. Inflatable curtain (IC)
The inflatable curtain (IC) consists of two inflatable protective curtains located in the bottom edge of the roof, 1 on each side of the vehicle.
The curtain shields the upper section of the vehicle interior, from the A to the C-posts.
See: Inflatable curtain Inflatable Curtain.
16. Other SRS components
Whiplash system
The front seats have a whiplash function. This function reduces the risk of whiplash injuries in the event of a collision. The system is completely mechanical and is integrated in the seats.
Wiring:
The SRS wiring is orange.
When working on SRS wiring, extra care must be taken to avoid damage to the following areas:
- the soundproofing panels
- the glove compartment
- the dashboard
- the steering shaft covers
- the steering column
- the ignition switch
- the sills
- The panels for the A, B, C and D posts
- the roof
- the front side plate (front collision sensor).
Data Link Connector (DLC):
The data link connector (DLC) is in the passenger compartment.
Decals:
Safety decals must always be in the vehicle at the relevant points. For further information see: Positioning safety labels .
