Fluid Filter - A/T: Service and Repair






Transmission Fluid Filter

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1410)

Removing

- Remove the transmission fluid pan. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid Pan ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the filter bolts - arrows -.






- Remove the transmission fluid filter.

- Remove the filter seal from its seat in the valve body.

Installing

Short Description

First, install the filter loosely. Then center it and press it into the valve body.

Proceed with caution so that the seal fits correctly and is not damaged.

Installing

- Lubricate the new seal - 1 - with transmission fluid and mount it on the suction collar.






- Position the filter loosely on the valve body but do not press it in.

- Install the bolts - arrows - approximately 3 turns (no more!) into the valve body.






Center the filter.

The filter centers itself noticeably in the valve body seat.

- Center the filter and press it into the valve body as far as the stop by pressing evenly on the corners. Hold it firmly in this position.

- Further tighten the filter bolts by hand.

- Then, tighten the filter bolts to specifications.

- Install the oil pan. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid Pan ] Service and Repair.

- After installation, fill with transmission fluid and check the fluid level, add if necessary. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling ] ATF Level, Checking and Filling.
