Seat Belts of the Outer Rear Seats
• Removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle is described here. Removing and installing on the right side is identical.
Removing
• The general safety precautions for working on airbag, belt tensioner and battery cut-out units (pyrotechnic components) must be observed. • Follow the special information regarding belt tensioners. Refer to => [ Belt Tensioner Special Instructions ] Belt Tensioner Special Instructions.
- Disconnect the vehicle battery.
- Remove the bench seats. Refer to => [ Bench Seats ] Bench Seats.
- Remove the rear seats. Refer to => [ Rear Seats ] Rear Seats.
- Remove the belt anchor of the outer rear seat. Refer to => [ Outer Rear Seat Belt Anchors ] Outer Rear Seat Belt Anchors.
- Remove the C-pillar trim. Refer to => [ C-Pillar Trim ] C-Pillar Trim.
- Remove and install the wheel housing trim. Refer to => [ Wheel Housing Trim ] Wheel Housing Trim.
- Remove the D-pillar trim. Refer to => [ D-Pillar Trim ] D-Pillar Trim.
- Remove the supports. Refer to => [ Supports ] Supports.
- Remove the lock carrier cover. Refer to => [ Lock Carrier Cover ] Lock Carrier Cover.
- Remove the side luggage compartment trim. Refer to => [ Side Luggage Compartment Trims ] Side Luggage Compartment Trims.
Electrostatic discharges can lead to unintended deployment of the belt tensioner. Therefore, the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before disconnecting the ignition and ground wiring. This is done, for example, by briefly touching the vehicle body or the door striker pin.
- Disconnect the wiring harness from the automatic belt retractor.
- Unscrew the bolt - 1 - (50 Nm) and detach the belt relay - 2 - from the belt height adjuster.
- Remove the bolt - 4 - (50 Nm) and remove the automatic belt retractor - 3 - from the mount.
Installation
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.
• The belt relay - 2 - must swing in a vertical direction or carrier direction by itself after the screw - 1 - is tightened.
• The seat belt must not be impeded by cables, wires, insulation, etc.
- Connect the battery.
