Right Flange Shaft and Seal

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Puller (T10037)

Thrust Piece (T10049)

Socket and Extended Bit (T10107)

Or Socket and Extended Bit (T10107 A)

Torque Wrench 5-50 Nm (V.A.G 1331)

Arbor (VW 434)

Knurled Nut (T10371/1)

Sealing Grease (G 052 128 A1)

Removing

- Remove right wheel.

- Remove the noise insulation under the engine/transmission, if equipped.

- Remove the drive axle heat shield, if equipped, from the bevel box. - arrows -.






The drive axle heat shield is attached with either 3 or 2 nuts, depending on the engine.

- Remove the right drive axle.

- Place a drip tray under the transmission.

- Remove the right flange shaft mounting bolt - arrow 1 - with the socket insert and install 2 bolts in the flange and counter-hold the flange shaft with the pry bar.






- Attach the (T10037) to the right flange shaft.






To remove right flange shaft, use (T10037) to avoid damaging the bearing on flange shaft.

- Place a spacer (for example, (VW 434) ) between the transmission support and the (T10371/1) if necessary.

- Turn the spindle - A - and line up the puller so that is it parallel to the flange.

- Install the right flange shaft.

- Pry the seal out of the flange shaft with a lever.

Installing

- Lightly oil the new seal on the outer circumference.

- Install the seal all the way in without tilting it.






- Fill the area between the sealing lip and dust lip - arrow - halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).






- Install the right flange shaft carefully. Turn the flange shaft so that the bearing does not get damaged.

- Install flange shaft with a bolt and tighten to tightening specification.

Install in reverse order of removal. Pay attention to the following:

- Remove the right drive axle.






- Install the drive axle heat shield, if equipped - arrows -.

The drive axle heat shield is attached with either 3 or 2 nuts, depending on the engine.

- Check axle oil in the bevel box. Refer to => [ Axle Oil in Bevel Box, Checking or Filling ] Procedures.

- Check transmission fluid level inside the manual transmission. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid, Checking ] Service and Repair.

- Install the noise insulation.

- Install the wheel.
