Sealing Flange and Dual Mass Flywheel Assembly Overview
1 Cylinder Block
• Crankshaft assembly overview. Refer to --> [ Crankshaft Assembly Overview ] Crankshaft Assembly Overview.
• Piston and connecting rod assembly overview. Refer to --> [ Pistons and Connecting Rod Assembly Overview ] Service and Repair.
2 Alignment Bushing
• Not installed.
3 Sealing Flange, Transmission Side
• With the oil seal.
• Only replaced as complete unit.
• Before installing, remove any remaining oil from the crankshaft journal with a clean cloth.
• Do not oil or grease the sealing lip of the oil seal.
• To install, use the provided guide sleeve.
• The guide sleeve may only be removed after the sealing flange has been slid onto the crankshaft end.

4 Bolt
• Tightening sequence and specification, refer to --> [ Transmission Side Sealing Flange, Bolt Tightening
Sequence and Specification ].
5 Intermediate Plate
• Must be located on the alignment bushings.
• Do not damage or bend when doing assembly work.
• Is hooked to the sealing flange --> [ Installing the Intermediate Plate ].
6 Bolt, 60 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn) additional turn
• For the dual mass flywheel.
• Always replace.
7 Dual Mass Flywheel
• Removing and installing, refer to --> [ Dual Mass Flywheel ] Dual Mass Flywheel.
• Only possible to install in one position - bores are offset.
8 Alignment Bushing
Transmission Side Sealing Flange, Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench 5-50 Nm (VAG 1331)
- Tighten the bolts in 2 passes in sequence - 1 through 8 - as follows:
- Tighten the bolts by hand.
- Tighten the bolts to 9 Nm.
Installing the Intermediate Plate
- Hook the intermediate plate to the sealing flange and push it onto the alignment bushings - arrows -.
