Rear Suspension Frame Removal and Installation

CAUTION:

If the rear suspension frame is not stably supported on a transmission jack or other supporting equipment during its removal and installation, the frame could drop and cause personal injury.

Make sure that the weight of the rear suspension frame is supported at the frame's center and that the frame is well balanced on the support.

NOTE:

The following bolts and nuts are pre-coated with friction stabilizer. If these bolts and nuts are reused, they may work loose.

Never reuse the following bolts and nuts.

- Rear suspension frame front nut
- Rear suspension frame rear bolt
- Frame front bar front bolt
- Frame front bar rear nut

Removal

1) Hoist vehicle and remove rear wheels. Removal and Replacement
2) Remove exhaust pipe No. 2. Exhaust System Components
3) Remove propeller shaft (4WD model). Propeller Shaft Assembly Removal and Installation
4) Remove wheel speed sensor bracket bolt (1).
5) Remove wheel speed sensor from upper arm (2).





6) Remove control rod. Control Rod Removal and Installation
7) Remove trailing arm from suspension knuckle. Trailing Arm Removal and Installation
8) Remove rear stabilizer joint bracket from suspension knuckle. Rear Stabilizer Bar/Rear Stabilizer Joint Removal and Installation
9) Remove lower arm. Lower Arm Removal and Installation
10) Dismount rear deferential (4WD model). Removal and Replacement
11) Remove upper arm bolt (1) to remove suspension knuckle (2) from upper arm (3).











12) Remove frame front bar bolts (1) and frame front bar rear nut (2) to remove frame front bar (3).





13) Support rear suspension frame by using transmission jack.
14) Remove rear suspension frame front nuts (1), rear suspension frame rear bolts (2), and rear suspension frame mount washers (3) to remove rear suspension frame (4) and rear suspension frame mount stoppers (5).





15) Remove upper arm bolts (1) to remove upper arms (2) from rear suspension frame.






Installation

Reverse removal procedure, noting the following points.

- Upper arm bolt on the rear suspension frame end of upper arm must be inserted from front side of vehicle, while upper arm bolt on the suspension knuckle end of upper arm must be inserted from rear side of vehicle.
- The following bolts and nuts must use new.

- Rear suspension frame front nut
- Rear suspension frame rear bolt
- Frame front bar front bolt
- Frame front bar rear nut

- Tighten every part to specified torque.

Tightening torque
Upper arm nut (on rear suspension frame side) 75 Nm (7.6 kgf-m, 55.5 lbf-ft)
Rear suspension frame front nut 110 Nm (11.2 kgf-m, 81.5 lbf-ft)
Rear suspension frame rear bolt 110 Nm (11.2 kgf-m, 81.5 lbf-ft)
Upper arm nut (on suspension knuckle side) 75 Nm (7.6 kgf-m, 55.5 lbf-ft)
Rear suspension frame front bar bolt 65 Nm (6.6 kgf-m, 48.0 lbf-ft)
Rear suspension frame front bar nut 110 Nm (11.2 kgf-m, 81.5 lbf-ft)
Wheel speed sensor bracket bolt 25 Nm (2.5 kgf-m, 18.5 lbf-ft)
