Propeller Shaft Assembly Removal and Installation

Propeller Shaft On-Vehicle Inspection

Removal

1) Hoist vehicle.
2) Remove floor tunnel front brace (1).





3) Remove exhaust pipe No.1 and No.2. Exhaust Pipe and Muffler Removal and Installation
4) Remove heat protector panel No.1. Exhaust System Components
5) Before removing propeller shaft assembly (1), give matchmark (2) on joint flange and propeller shaft as shown.
6) Separate propeller shaft assembly from transfer output flange (3) and rear differential flange (4).











7) Remove propeller shaft by removing center support bolts (1).











Installation

NOTE:

The following bolts are pre-coated with friction stabilizer or adhesive. If these bolts are reused, they may work loose.

Be sure to replace the following bolts with new ones whenever they are removed.

- Center support bolt
- Propeller shaft front bolt
- Propeller shaft rear bolt

Reverse removal procedure, noting the following points:

- Tighten new center support bolts (1) to specified torque.

Tightening torque
Center support bolt (a): 45 Nm (4.6 kgf-m, 33.5 lbf-ft)









- Align matchmark (4) of each flange when installing propeller shaft.
- Tighten propeller shaft new front bolts (1) and new rear bolts (2) to specified torque.

Tightening torque
Propeller shaft front bolt (a): 26 Nm (2.7 kgf-m, 19.5 lbf-ft)
Propeller shaft rear bolt (b): 33 Nm (3.4 kgf-m, 24.5 lbf-ft)
