Removal





STEERING GEAR / LINKAGE: STEERING GEAR: REMOVAL

CAUTION:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing Service Precautions.

1. PRECAUTION

NOTICE:
After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work Service Precautions.

2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

3. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

4. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH

HINT
Use the same procedure for the LH side as for the RH side Removal.

5. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD LH

HINT
Use the same procedure for the LH side as for the RH side Removal.

6. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH

7. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY Removal

8. REMOVE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY Removal

9. REMOVE NO. 3 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

10. SEPARATE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a) Secure the steering wheel with the seat belt in order to prevent it from rotating.





HINT
This operation is necessary to prevent damage to the spiral cable.

(b) Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and the steering link assembly.

(c) Loosen the bolt A, remove the bolt B and separate the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.

11. SEPARATE STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Disengage the clip A, detach the clip B from the body and separate the steering column hole cover sub-assembly.





NOTICE:
Do not damage clips A and B.

12. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS

13. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD

Removal

14. SEPARATE TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH Removal

15. SEPARATE TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

HINT
Use the same procedure for the RH side as for the LH side.

16. REMOVE STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY





(a) Disengage the 2 claws and separate the steering column hole cover sub-assembly from the steering link assembly.

(b) Remove the 2 bolts and the steering link assembly from the body.





(c) Remove the steering link assembly through the right wheel housing.

NOTICE:
* Do not damage the steering gear rack boot.
* Do not damage the vehicle body.
