Removal





STEERING COLUMN: STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (w/o VGRS): REMOVAL

CAUTION:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing the steering column Service Precautions.

1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

2. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS

3. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER LH Removal

4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

(a) Disable the AUTO TILT AWAY function by changing the customize parameter Programming and Relearning.

NOTICE:
Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the AUTO TILT AWAY function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing the operation.

HINT
Performing the above operation causes the AUTO TILT AWAY function to be disabled when the engine switch is turned off.

(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column assembly.

(c) Turn the engine switch off and disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

NOTICE:
* w/ Navigation System (for HDD):
After the engine switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, be sure to wait for the time specified in the following table before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

Waiting Time before Disconnecting Cable from Negative (-) Battery Terminal:





* When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.

5. REMOVE SWITCH AND VOLUME CASE Removal

6. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER Removal

7. REMOVE STEERING PAD Removal

8. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the steering wheel set nut.

(b) Put matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft.





(c) Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.

9. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (w/o Driver Monitor Camera)

(a) Remove the 3 screws.





(b) Detach the 2 claws to remove the steering column cover lower.

NOTICE:
Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.

(c) Detach the 4 clips.

(d) Detach the claw to remove the steering column cover upper.





10. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (w/ Driver Monitor Camera)

(a) Remove the 3 screws.





(b) Detach the 2 claws to remove the steering column cover lower.

NOTICE:
Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.

(c) Detach the 4 clips.





(d) Detach the claw to remove the steering column cover upper.

(e) Disconnect the drive monitor connector.

11. REMOVE TILT AND TELESCOPIC SWITCH

(a) Detach the switch connector.





(b) Using a screwdriver, detach the claw and pull out the switch.

NOTICE:
Pushing on the claw too hard will break the claw.

HINT
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

12. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch with spiral cable.

(b) Using pliers, grip the claws of the clamp and remove the turn signal switch with spiral cable from the steering column.





13. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

14. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH Removal

15. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MOULDING Removal

16. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH Removal

17. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY Removal

18. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

19. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

20. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Detach the 2 claws and remove the wiring harness protector.





(b) Detach the claw, and remove the bolt and air duct.





21. REMOVE STEERING SLIDING YOKE WITH SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)

(a) Loosen bolt (A) and remove bolt (B), then slide the steering sliding yoke.





NOTICE:
* Do not remove bolt (A).
* Do not separate the steering sliding yoke from the power steering gear.

(b) Put matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke, No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and steering intermediate shaft.





(c) Put matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke, No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and steering link.

(d) Separate the steering sliding yoke from the steering intermediate shaft.

HINT
Insert a screwdriver or equivalent into the yoke's hole. Hold down the intermediate shaft's claw and remove the intermediate shaft. If the claw is damaged, remove the claw. The intermediate shaft does not have to be replaced.





22. REMOVE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT

(a) Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft and power steering link.





(b) Remove the bolt and steering intermediate shaft.

23. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)





(a) Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and the steering column.

(b) Remove the bolt.

(c) Remove the clamp and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft.





24. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for AWD)

(a) Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and steering column.





(b) Remove the bolt.

(c) Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and steering link.





(d) Remove the bolt.

(e) Remove the clamp and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft.





25. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (TILT STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY WITH MOTOR)

(a) Disconnect the connectors and wire harness clamps from the steering column.

(b) Remove the 4 nuts and steering column.
