Trouble In Passenger Airbag On/Off Indicator
SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM: OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM: Trouble in Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator
Trouble in Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator
DESCRIPTION
The occupant classification system detects the front passenger seat condition. It then informs a passenger of the front passenger airbag and front seat side airbag condition (activated/not activated) by the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator.
HINT: Approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON, the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator will be ON/OFF depending on the conditions listed below.
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT: If this trouble occurs, the SRS warning light is off. If it is on, a DTC is output. Troubleshoot for the output DTC.
PROCEDURE
1. PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(c) Using the Techstream, perform the zero point calibration Diagnosis System.
(d) Turn the ignition switch OFF.
(e) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(f) Check for the DTCs of the occupant classification ECU Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK FOR DTC
(a) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(b) Clear the DTCs stored in the occupant classification ECU Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(c) Clear the DTCs stored in the center airbag sensor Removal.
(d) Turn the ignition switch OFF.
(e) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(f) Check for the DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
OK:
DTC B1797 is not output.
HINT: Codes other than B1797 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.
NG -- Go to DTC B1797
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON / OFF INDICATOR (PERFORM SENSITIVITY CHECK)
(a) Perform the sensitivity check Diagnosis System.
NG -- READ VALUE USING DATA LIST (PASSENGER SIDE BUCKLE SWITCH)
OK -- END
4. READ VALUE USING DATA LIST (PASSENGER SIDE BUCKLE SWITCH)
(a) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(b) Using the Techstream, read the Data List Scan Tool Testing and Procedures.
(1) Read the display when the passenger side buckle switch is operated.
Occupant classification ECU:
OK:
Display changes correctly in accordance with the operation of the buckle switch.
NG -- CHECK CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. READ VALUE USING DATA LIST (SEAT BELT TENSION SENSOR)
(a) Fasten the passenger side seat belt.
(b) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(c) Using the Techstream, read the value of the Data List Scan Tool Testing and Procedures.
Occupant classification ECU:
OK:
When there is no tension on belt, 39 to 229 is displayed on Techstream.
NG -- CHECK CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
6. CHECK CONNECTOR
(a) Disconnect the connectors from the occupant classification ECU and the classification sensor.
(b) Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor and occupant classification sensor side) are not damaged.
OK:
Connectors are not deformed or damaged.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FRONT SEAT WIRE RH
OK -- Continue to next step.
7. REPLACE FRONT SEAT CUSHION ASSEMBLY
(a) Turn the ignition switch OFF.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Using the Techstream, perform the zero point calibration Initialization.
(d) Turn the ignition switch OFF.
(e) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(f) Clear the DTCs stored in the occupant classification ECU Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
HINT: If the DTCs are not cleared at this time, past DTCs will remain.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
9. PERFORM SENSITIVITY CHECK
(a) Perform the sensitivity check Initialization.
OK:
Passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator changes correctly in accordance with the operation.
NG -- REPLACE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU
OK -- END
