Removal





AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL: REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY: REMOVAL

1. REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

HINT
Refer to the procedure up to Remove Rear Axle Carrier Sub-assembly Removal.

2. DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL

(a) Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the differential inspection plug and gasket.





(b) Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the rear differential drain plug and gasket to drain the differential oil.





3. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH

for TMC made: Removal

for TMMC made: Removal

4. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT SNAP RING LH

for TMC made: Disassembly

for TMMC made: Disassembly

5. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

(a) Using a jack and wooden block, jack up the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly LH to replicate standard vehicle height conditions.

CAUTION:
Do not jack up the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly LH too high as the vehicle may fall.

(b) Temporarily install the rear axle carrier sub-assembly LH with the 4 bolts, 3 nuts and spacer to the rear No. 1 suspension arm assembly LH, rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly LH, rear upper control arm assembly LH and rear lower shock absorber bracket sub-assembly LH.





(c) Lower the jack.

6. REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

Perform the same procedure as the LH side.

7. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH

HINT
Perform the same procedure as the LH side.

8. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT SNAP RING RH

HINT
Perform the same procedure as the LH side.

9. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

HINT
Perform the same procedure as the LH side.

10. REMOVE PROPELLER WITH CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSEMBLY Removal

11. REMOVE TAIL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY Removal

12. REMOVE STABILIZER LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY (for LH Side) Removal

13. REMOVE STABILIZER LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY (for RH Side)

HINT
Perform the same procedure as the LH side.

14. REMOVE REAR STABILIZER BAR Removal

15. LOOSEN NO. 1 REAR DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT

HINT
Loosen the bolts only when removal of the No. 1 rear differential support is required.

(a) Loosen the 2 bolts.





16. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY WITH DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT

(a) Disconnect the vacuum hose from the electro magnetic control coupling sub-assembly.





(b) Support the rear differential carrier assembly with differential support with a jack using 3 attachments as shown in the illustration.

(c) Remove the 2 bolts (A) and rear differential dynamic damper from the differential support.

(d) Remove the 2 bolts (B), 2 nuts and 2 lower rear differential mount stoppers from the No. 1 rear differential support.

HINT
The nuts have tabs to prevent them from rotating.

(e) Slightly lower the rear differential carrier assembly with differential support, remove the vacuum hose from the 2 clamps, disconnect the connector, and remove the clamp from the connector bracket.





(f) Lower the rear differential carrier assembly with differential support slowly to remove the rear differential carrier assembly with differential support.

NOTICE:
Do not damage the vacuum hose and electro magnetic control coupling wire harness.

17. REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT

(a) Remove the 3 bolts and differential support.





18. REMOVE UPPER REAR DIFFERENTIAL MOUNT STOPPER

(a) Remove the 2 upper rear differential mount stoppers from the No. 1 rear differential support.





19. REMOVE NO. 1 REAR DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT

(a) Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and No. 1 rear differential support.

The nuts have tabs to prevent them from rotating.
