Removal





AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL: REAR AXLE CARRIER (for AWD): REMOVAL

HINT
* Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
* The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

2. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID

3. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION ARM COVER Removal

4. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT Removal

5. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY

(a) Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the brake line from the rear flexible hose.





NOTICE:
* Do not bend or damage the brake line.
* Do not allow any foreign matter such as dirt and dust to enter the brake line.

(b) Remove the clip and separate the rear flexible hose.

(c) Remove the bolt and separate the rear flexible hose from the rear upper control arm assembly.





(d) Remove the 2 bolts and rear disc brake caliper assembly with rear flexible hose.





6. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG Removal

7. REMOVE REAR DISC Removal

8. SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR

(a) Remove the bolt and separate the rear speed sensor from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.





NOTICE:
* Prevent foreign matter from attaching to the rear speed sensor tip.
* Clean the rear speed sensor installation hole and the contact surfaces every time the rear speed sensor is removed.
* Do not twist or apply excessive force to the rear speed sensor during removal from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly to prevent it from being damaged.

(b) Remove the bolt and separate the rear speed sensor from the rear trailing arm assembly.





9. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY Removal

10. LOOSEN PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY

(a) Loosen the nut to separate the parking brake assembly after removing the rear trailing arm assembly.





11. REMOVE REAR TRAILING ARM ASSEMBLY Removal

12. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the nut and separate the parking brake assembly from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.





NOTICE:
Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the parking brake assembly from hanging down by the parking brake cable.

13. REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Using a jack and wooden block, jack up the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly to replicate standard vehicle height conditions.

CAUTION:
Do not jack up the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly too high as the vehicle may fall.

NOTICE:
Keep supporting the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly until the installation of the rear axle carrier sub-assembly has been completed.

(b) Remove the 2 bolts (A) to separate the rear axle carrier sub-assembly from the rear lower shock absorber bracket sub-assembly.

(c) Remove the bolt (B) and nut, and then separate the rear upper control arm assembly from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.

NOTICE:
Since the stopper nut is used, loosen the bolt (B).

(d) Remove the bolt (C) and nut to separate the rear axle carrier sub-assembly from the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly.

NOTICE:
Since the stopper nut is used, loosen the bolt (C).

(e) Remove the nut (D), spacer and rear axle carrier sub-assembly from the rear No. 1 suspension arm assembly.

NOTICE:
Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the rear drive shaft assembly from hanging down.

14. REMOVE LOWER CONTROL ARM PIN (for TMMC Made)

(a) Hold the rear axle carrier sub-assembly between aluminium plates in a vise.





NOTICE:
Do not overtighten the vise.

(b) Using a hammer, remove the lower control arm pin from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.
