Diagnostic Overview

The Safety Belt Warning or Belt-Minder(R) Chime Is Inoperative

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

REFER to Safety Belt Warning Chime and REFER to Belt-Minder(R) Feature .

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK THE WARNING CHIME OPERATION

1. Ignition ON.

2. Operate the hazard function.

Does the hazard tick-tock tone sound?







2. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

1. Using a scan tool, perform the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self test.

Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?







3. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE BCM (Body Control Module) SELF-TEST

1. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.

Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?







4. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE RCM (Restraints Control Module) SELF-TEST

1. Using a scan tool, perform the RCM (Restraints Control Module) self-test.

Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?







5. CHECK THE DRIVER SAFETY BELT BUCKLE SWITCH

1. Ignition ON.

2. Using a scan tool, monitor the RCM (Restraints Control Module) driver safety belt buckle PID (Parameter Identification) (SBELT_D_ST) while buckling and unbuckling the driver safety belt.

Does the PID (Parameter Identification) display BUCKLED with the safety belt buckled and UNBUCKLED with the safety belt unbuckled?







6. CHECK THE SAFETY BELT WARNING INDICATOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Ignition ON.

3. Within one minute, buckle then unbuckle the driver front safety belt while monitoring the safety belt warning indicator.

Does the safety belt warning indicator turn on when the safety belt is unbuckled and turn off when buckled?







7. CHECK THE SPEEDOMETER OPERATION

1. Verify the speedometer operates.

Does the speedometer operate?







8. CHECK THE Belt-Minder(R) CONFIGURATION

1. NOTE: Verify that an administrator key is used for this test and not a MyKey(R) programmed key. When a MyKey(R) programmed key is used, the Belt-Minder(R) is automatically turned on and cannot be disabled (if previously disabled by an administrator, the Belt-Minder(R) remains disabled when an administrator key is used).
Verify the Belt-Minder(R) is activated or configured on for the seating position in question. REFER to Belt-Minder Deactivating and Activating Testing and Inspection to configure without a scan tool.

Is the Belt-Minder(R) activated for the seating position in question?
