Belt-Minder Deactivating and Activating

WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure, REFER to Safety Warnings . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

General Procedure

NOTE: The driver and passenger seat Belt-Minder(R) deactivating/activating can be carried out using the scan tool.

NOTE: If you are using a MyKey(R) programmed key, the Belt-Minder(R) cannot be disabled and does not time out after 5 minutes. If the Belt-Minder(R) has been previously disabled, it is re-enabled when a MyKey(R) programmed key is used.

1. Apply the parking brake before deactivating/activating the Belt-Minder(R).

2. Place the gear selector lever in PARK (P) (automatic transmission) or NEUTRAL (manual transmission).

3. Place the ignition in OFF.

4. Unbuckle the driver and the front passenger safety belts.

5. Place the ignition in the RUN mode (do not start the engine).

6. Wait until the safety belt warning indicator turns off (approximately 1 minute).

7. NOTE: This step must be completed within 60 seconds after the safety belt warning indicator turns off (step 6).
For the seating position to be disabled, at a moderate speed, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt 4 times (early build) or 3 times (late build), ending with the safety belt in the unbuckled state. After this step the safety belt warning indicator illuminates (early build) or illuminates for 3 seconds then turns off (late build).

8. Within 7 seconds of the safety belt warning indicator turning off, at a moderate speed, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt.

1. This disables the Belt-Minder(R) feature for that seating position, if it is currently enabled. As confirmation on early build vehicles, the safety belt warning indicator flashes 4 times. As confirmation on late build vehicles, the safety belt warning indicator flashes 4 times per second for 3 seconds.

2. This enables the safety Belt-Minder(R) feature for that seating position, if it is currently disabled. As confirmation on early build vehicles, the safety belt warning indicator flashes 4 times. As confirmation on late build vehicles, the safety belt warning indicator flashes 4 times per second for 3 seconds, followed by 3 seconds with the safety belt warning indicator off, then the safety belt warning indicator flashes 4 times per second for 3 seconds again.

9. After confirmation, the deactivation/activation procedure is complete.
