Diagnostic Overview

The Speedometer Is Inoperative

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

REFER to Speedometer .

If the BCM (Body Control Module) does not receive the vehicle speed message from the ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module for more than 2 seconds, the BCM (Body Control Module) and IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) set DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U0121:00.

If the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) does not receive the vehicle speed message or if the data is deemed invalid for more than 2 seconds, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) defaults the speedometer to 0 km/h (0 mph).

Pinpoint Test

1. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

1. Using a scan tool, perform the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.

Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?







2. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) MODULE SELF-TEST

1. Using a scan tool, perform the ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) module self-test.

Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?







3. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE BCM (Body Control Module) SELF-TEST

1. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.

Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?







4. CHECK THE SPEEDOMETER OPERATION USING THE DEALER TEST MODE

1. Ignition ON.

2. Monitor the speedometer.

3. Ignition OFF.

4. Enter the Dealer Test Mode. REFER to Dealer Test Mode .

5. Scroll to gauge sweep.

6. Monitor the speedometer when the gauge sweep initiates.

Does the speedometer begin at 0 km/h (0 mph) move to 257.5 km/h (160 mph) and return to 0 km/h (0 mph)?
