Front Passenger Seat Occupant Sensor G128
• The front passenger seat occupant sensor (G128) is only installed in the front seat.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hot air blower (VAS 1978/14A) only for a front seat with heating element
Removing
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Pyrotechnic, Electrical and Mechanical Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and Testing Procedures ] Testing and Inspection.
• Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Disconnect the ground cable from the battery with the ignition on.
- Remove the front passenger seat:
• Manual standard seat/Sport seat, refer to => [ Standard Seat and Sport Seat, Manual ] Standard Seat and Sport Seat, Manual.
• Power Standard seat/power Sport seat/Super sport seat as well as multicontour seat, refer to => [ Power Standard Seat/Sport Seat/Super Sport Seat ] Power Standard Seat/Sport Seat/Super Sport Seat.
- Attach front seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) => [ Installing Front Seat on Fixture for Seat Repair VAS 6136 ] Installing Front Seat on Fixture For Seat Repair VAS 6136.
- Remove the upholstery from the rear part of the seat cover until the seat occupied sensor is freed up (seat pan):
• Manual or power Standard seat, refer to => [ Seat Cover and Seat Cushion for Standard Seat, Separating and Connecting ] Seat Cover and Seat Cushion For Standard Seat, Separating and Connecting.
• Manual or power Sport seat/Super Sport seat, refer to => [ Seat Cover and Seat Cushion, Disassembling and Assembling, Sport Seat/Super Sport Seat with Seat Depth Adjuster ] Seat Cover and Seat Cushion, Disassembling and Assembling, Sport Seat/Super Sport Seat With Seat Depth Adjuster.
• Multicontour seat => [ Seat Cover and Seat Cushion for Multi-contour Seat, Separating and Connecting ] Seat Cover and Seat Cushion For Multi-Contour Seat, Separating and Connecting.
- Disconnect the electrical harness connector for the seat occupied sensor.
Manual or power Standard seat/Sport seat/Super Sport seat:
- Warm the seat heating element carefully with the hot air blower (VAS 1978/14A) , if equipped.
- Remove the seat heating element just far enough until the seat occupied sensor is free.
- Carefully detach seat occupied sensor - 3 - with printed circuit board - 2 - from the seat cushion- 1 -.
Multi-contour seat:
- Carefully detach seat occupied sensor - 1 - with printed circuit board - 2 - from the seat cushion- 3 -.
Installation

• Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
Manual or power Standard seat/Sport seat/Super Sport seat:
- Position the circuit board - 2 - for the seat occupied sensor - 3 - in the opening in the seat cushion - 1 -.
- Align seat occupied sensor according to the marks on the seat cushion.
The new seat occupied sensor should be installed in the same location on the seat upholstery as the old seat occupied sensor.
- Remove the protective film and adhere the seat occupied sensor to the seat cushion.
Multi-contour seat:
- Position the circuit board - 2 - for the seat occupied sensor - 1 - in the opening in the seat cushion - 3 -.
- Align seat occupied sensor according to the marks on the seat cushion.
The new seat occupied sensor should be installed in the same location on the seat upholstery as the old seat occupied sensor.
- Remove the protective film and adhere the seat occupied sensor to the seat cushion.
Procedure for all seat versions:
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
• Make sure the seat occupied sensor is not covered by the seat heater element heating coils.
• Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.
Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.
• If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, check the DTC memory, erase it and check it again. Refer to Vehicle diagnostic tester.
