Headliner: Service and Repair







Headlining, replacing






Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work




Remove the battery cable Refer to: Battery, disconnecting Battery, Disconnecting.
Fold down all the backrests on the rear seat.
Remove all the door weather strips from the roof down to the door sill.

Removing the headlining





Remove:
- the sun visors Refer to: Sun visor, replacing Service and Repair
- the roof module Refer to: Upper electronic module (UEM)/rearview mirror, replacing Upper Electronic Module (UEM)/Rearview Mirror, Replacing
- the grab handles
- the mounting for the cargo net
- the rear reading lamp Refer to: Bulb, reading lamp, rear, replacing Bulb, Reading Lamp, Rear, Replacing
- the connector for the rear reading lamp
- the roof clip.
- Rear intrusion sensor Refer to: Rear intrusion sensor Removal and Replacement




- cantrail panel Refer to: Panel cantrail, replacing Panel, Cantrail, Replacing.

Detach and fold down:
- D-pillar panel Refer to: Panel D-post, replacing Panel, D-Post, Replacing
- C-pillar panel Refer to: Panel C-post, replacing Panel, C-Post, Replacing.

Hint: Leave the headlining hanging from the B-posts.

Remove the A-pillar panel Refer to: Panel A-post, replacing Panel, A-Post, Replacing.
Remove the washer hose at the lower corner by the right-hand A-post.
Detach the washer hose at the trunk lid.

Note! There is a risk spillage.

Remove the clips from the cable for the reading lamp.





Cars equipped with sun roofs:
Remove the molding around the sun roof.
Pull the molding inwards into the car. Start at the short side so that the corners release.




Carefully detach the headlining from the B-posts.
Pull the headlining out through the tailgate at an angle.

Hint: Try to keep the headlining as close to the floor as possible.





Note! Use tape (P/N 944 1891) to secure the cable harness to the new headlining. Tape the entire cable harness to the headlining so that it is secure.

- the clips to the cable for the reading lamp
- the washer hose at the tailgate
- the washer hose at the A-post
- A-pillar panel. Refer to: Panel A-post, replacing Panel, A-Post, Replacing
- C-pillar panel. Refer to: Panel C-post, replacing Panel, C-Post, Replacing
- D-pillar panel. Refer to: Panel D-post, replacing Panel, D-Post, Replacing
- Cantrail panel. Refer to: Panel cantrail, replacing Panel, Cantrail, Replacing
- the roof clip.
- the connector for the rear reading lamp
- the rear reading lamp Refer to: Bulb, reading lamp, rear, replacing Bulb, Reading Lamp, Rear, Replacing
- the mounting for the cargo net
- the grab handle
- the roof module Refer to: Upper electronic module (UEM)/rearview mirror, replacing Upper Electronic Module (UEM)/Rearview Mirror, Replacing
- the sun visors. Refer to: Sun visor, replacing Service and Repair

Caution! Do not damage or trap any cables when installing the sun visors.

Connect the battery lead. Refer to: Battery, disconnecting Battery, Disconnecting
