Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair






Power steering pump

Note! Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Removal

Remove:
- battery negative lead. Battery Disconnecting
- the headlight on the right side. Headlamp Bulb
- bumper cover, front. Service and Repair

Remove the 2 connectors.





Warning! Be prepared to collect all escaping fluids.

Place an oil collection container under the pump.

Remove:
1. the hose from the pump's reservoir
2. the lead.

Caution! Make sure that all openings are sealed.





Remove:
- the 3 screws
- the power steering pump.

Vehicles with old cable harness




Cut the leads to the larger connector. Install plastic tape around the cut leads.




Remove the fuse 15/31: F2 for the power steering pump.
Pull up the lead and cut it behind the cable terminal. Install plastic tape around the cut lead and press it down in the fuse holder.
Remove the ground lead for the power steering pump (slightly coarser 4 sq.mm lead) and cut off the cable terminal. Install plastic tape around the cut lead.





Install:
- the cable harness
- connector on power steering pump
- plus lead (1) and the fuse, M5
- ground lead (2), M6.
Plug in the smaller connector to the power steering pump.

Installation

All vehicles





Install:
- the servo pump
- the 3 M8 screws.





Install:
1. the return hose with the clamp to the pump's reservoir
2. delivery line to the power steering pump, tighten. Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications




Install the 2 connectors.




Fill power steering fluid up to the marking on the reservoir.
Use: Volvo's servo oil, 30741424

Install:
- bumper casing. Refer to: Cover bumper front Service and Repair
- the headlight. Refer to: Headlamp bulb Headlamp Bulb Headlamp bulb Headlamp Bulb
- battery negative lead. Refer to: Battery Disconnecting
Order software and program. Refer to: Power steering module (PSC) Power Steering Module (PSC)

Note! Move the vehicle a bit with some steering wheel movement so that the tires are not loaded to hard in one spot.

Start the engine and bleed the power steering system by steering to full lock, alternately left and right until the steering feels good.
Check the oil level again. Refer to: Oil level, power steering, checking, B5254T7 Oil Level, Power Steering, Checking.
