Gear selector cables, replace

Removal
Removing the air cleaner (ACL) housing
Remove the air cleaner (ACL) housing. See Gear selector cables, replacing Gear Selector Cables, Replace.
Removing the gear selector cable from the bracket
Remove the gear selector cable from the bracket on the transaxle. Use special tool 999 7077 Jimmy bar 999 7077 Jimmy Bar. Do not damage the ball.
Removing side panels
Remove the side panels from the centre console.
Removing the panel
Detach the panel around the gear selector lever by lifting straight up at the rear edge.
Removing the mechanical cable
Detach the gear selector lever stop. See Gear selector lever assembly Geartronic, replacing, B8444S, TF-80SC AWD, B6324S, TF-80SC, B6324S, TF-80SC AWD Gear Selector Lever Assembly Geartronic, Replacing.
Remove:
- the catch for the cable on the gear selector
- the cable from the end of the gear selector assembly by pressing the lock facing. Use a screwdriver
- the cable.
Removing the cable at the firewall
Remove:
- the 2 air ducts
- the 4 screws for the stay in the dashboard
- the cable. Pull it inwards into the passenger compartment.
Hint: Secure a cable using tape at the end of the engine compartment on the mechanical cable before pulling it out to make reinstallation easier. Route the cable correctly in the engine compartment with someone to assist you.
Installation
Note! For tightening torques, see Tightening Torque
Preparations for installation
Tape the cable to the new cable
Note! When installing the mechanical cable: Make sure that there are no sharp bends or kinks, especially in the cable's ends between the inner cable and outer casing.
Hint: Route the cable correctly in the engine compartment with someone to assist you.
Installing the cable from the inside of the passenger compartment
Install the cable under the heater unit on left-hand side, down towards the hole.
Note! Take great care when running the rubber bellow for the cable through the hole in the firewall. The cable must not be damaged.
Feed a small amount of cable through the hole.
Hint: Route the cable correctly in the engine compartment with someone to assist you.
Locate the grommet on the studs
Install:
- the nuts. Tighten.
- the air ducts
- the stay and the M6 screws. Tighten.
Installing the cable on the gear selector
Install:
- the cable on the gear selector. Secure the cable with the catch
- the cable to the end of the gear selector assembly.
Reinstall the gear selector lever stop. See Gear selector lever assembly Geartronic, replacing, B8444S, TF-80SC AWD, B6324S, TF-80SC, B6324S, TF-80SC AWD Gear Selector Lever Assembly Geartronic, Replacing.
Installing service clips
Note! The automatic transmission has a gear selector cable while the manual transmission has two gear selector cables.
Ensure that the gear selector cable is engaged before fitting the blue clip. Press the clip into position as illustrated.
Check that the clip is positioned in the groove as illustrated.
Installing the gear selector cable on the gearbox
Install:
- the cable on the bracket. Press it so that it locks
- the ball joint for the cable on the lever. Press into place by hand.
Note! The cable must be adjusted after replacement. See Gear selector cables, adjusting, TF-80SC AWD Adjustments.
Installing service clips
Note! The automatic transmission has a gear selector cable while the manual transmission has two gear selector cables.
Ensure that the gear selector cable is engaged before fitting the blue clip. Press the clip into position as illustrated.
Check that the clip is positioned in the groove as illustrated.
