IC (inflatable curtain) module, replacing

As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparations




Remove the battery lead. See Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting.
For information about the inflatable curtain, see Handling non-deployed SRS-components Discarding Pyrotechnic Components.

Note! When installing the inflatable curtain, part of the decal on the curtain must be ripped off and stuck on the decal in the door opening.

Note! There are two XC90 versions.
- The five seat version has one inflatable curtain on each side
- The seven seat version has two inflatable curtains on each side.

Warning! Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected, non-deployed, inflatable curtain. There is a risk of deployment.

Warning! The inflatable curtain must never be unscrewed, repaired or moved to another vehicle.

Removing inflatable curtains (five seat version)





Remove:
- the headlining. See Headlining, replacing Service and Repair
- the connector
- the support clips from the body, (4 each side). See Support clips inflatable curtain (inflatable curtain module), replacing Support Clips Inflatable Curtain (Inflatable Curtain Module), Replacing.





Remove:
- the front securing clip
- the clip at the A-post. Unhook the hook
- the screw.




- the screw from the gas generator bracket. Unhook
- the screw from the eyelet mounting. Unhook.
Lift out the inflatable curtain.

Installing inflatable curtains (five seat version)

Note! For tightening torques, see IC (Inflatable Curtain) Module, Replacing





Install:
- the insert on the gas generator bracket on the body side
- the 4 support clips on the body side. Press into place
- the 3 M6 screws. Tighten
- 1 M6 screw to the eyelet. Tighten.




- 1 M6 screw for the gas pipe at the A-post. Unhook the hook at the A-post
- the clip
- the front securing clip at the A-post.

Caution! Always replace the front securing clip with a new one.





Check:
- the function of the clip for the sail fixation so that it releases easily
- that the inflatable curtain is not trapped.

Install:
- the connector
- the headlining. See Headlining, replacing Service and Repair.
Carry out an inspection. See Supplementary restraint system (SRS), inspection Supplementary Restraint System (SRS), Inspection.

Removing inflatable curtains (seven seat version)





Remove:
- the headlining. See Headlining, replacing Service and Repair
- the connector
- the support clips from the body, (4 each side). See Support clips inflatable curtain (inflatable curtain module), replacing Support Clips Inflatable Curtain (Inflatable Curtain Module), Replacing




- the front securing clip
- the clip at the A-post. Unhook the hook
- the screw.




- the screw from the bracket for the front gas generator. Unhook the screw
- the screw at the D-post
- the nuts, x2, from the bracket for the rear gas generator
- the clip from the bracket for the rear gas generator.
Lift out the inflatable curtain.

Installing inflatable curtains (seven seat version)

Note! For tightening torques, see IC (Inflatable Curtain) Module, Replacing





Install:
- the insert on the gas generator bracket on the body side
- the 4 support clips on the body side. Press into place
- the front gas generator with the center screw, x1 M6. Tighten
- the rear gas generator. Secure using clips
- 2 x M6 nuts. Tighten
- 1 x M6 screw at the D-post. Tighten.




- 1 M6 screw for the gas pipe the A-post. Unhook the hook at the A-post
- the clip
- the front securing clip at the A-post.

Caution! Always replace the front securing clip with a new one.





Check:
- the function of the clip for the sail fixation so that it releases easily
- that the inflatable curtain is not trapped.

Install:
- the connector
- the headlining. See Headlining, replacing Service and Repair.
Carry out an inspection. See Supplementary restraint system (SRS), inspection Supplementary Restraint System (SRS), Inspection.
