Right Flange Shaft and Seal
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Thrust Piece (3305)
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Drip Tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)
• Sealing Grease for Seal (G 052 128 A1)
Removing
- Remove the noise insulation.
- If equipped, remove the right drive axle heat shield bolts - arrows - and shield.
- Remove the right drive axle from the transmission flange shaft - A -.
- Secure the drive axle using wire, do not damage the protective coating when doing this.
• On some engines, the drive axle cannot be tied up so that the flange shaft can be removed.
• Remove the drive axle.
- Place a drip tray, for example, drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208) under the transmission.
- Remove the flange shaft bolt. To do this, install two bolts into the flange and counter hold the flange shaft using a pry bar.
- Remove the flange shaft with the pressure spring (the left flange shaft is shown in the illustration).
- Pry out the shaft seal.
Installing
- Drive in the new seal until seated and without tilting it using the thrust piece (3305).
- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips half way with sealing grease for seal (G 052 128 A1).
- Secure the flange shaft - A - with the bolt and tighten it to specification, see - item 10 - in the => [ Differential ] Service and Repair.
- Install the right drive axle to the flange shaft - A -.
- Install the right drive axle heat shield and bolts - arrows -, if equipped.
- Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid, Checking ] Service and Repair.
- Install the noise insulation.
