Drive Belt Tensioner: Service and Repair






Ribbed Belt Tensioner

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine Support Bridge (10-222 A)

Engine Support Basic Set (T40091)

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)

Removing

- Remove the noise insulation.

- Remove the right front wheel.

- Remove the right wheel housing liner.

- Remove the after-run coolant pump bracket bolt - 2 -.






The after-run coolant pump (V51) stays in the installed position.

- First, remove the pendulum support bolt - 1 -.






- Then, remove the bolts - 2 and 3 - and remove the pendulum support.

- Remove the engine cover. Refer to => [ Engine Cover ] Engine Cover.

- Remove the plenum chamber cover.

- Remove the radiator grille.

- Install the engine support bridge (10-222 A) and support the engine in its installed position.

3. Support (10-222 A/31-1)

4. Shackle (10-222 A/12)

5. Base (10-222 A/31-4)

6. Support (10-222 A/31-3)

7. Cross bar (T40091/1)

8. Adapter (10-222 A/18)


- Remove the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.

- Remove the engine mount to engine mount bracket bolts - arrows -.






- Lower the engine approximately 55 mm.

- Free up the electrical harness - arrow -.






- Remove the bolt - 1 - and remove the ribbed belt tensioner from the accessory bracket.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:

Tightening specification for the ribbed belt components. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt Overview ] Ribbed Belt Overview.

Tightening specifications for the engine mount. Refer to => [ Engine and Transmission Mount Overview ] Removal and Replacement.

- Insert the ribbed belt tensioner - 1 - into the accessory bracket - 3 - and tighten the bolt - 5 -.






Note the support - 2 - installed location: insert the support tab in the hole on the accessory bracket.

Note the centering sleeve - 4 -.

- Adjust the engine mount. Refer to => [ Engine and Transmission Mount, Adjusting ] Engine and Transmission Mount, Adjusting.
