Removal and Replacement






Bevel Box

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

Socket and Extended Bit (T10107)

Removing

Perform the following work:

- Remove the noise insulation.

- Remove the right drive axle.

- Remove the subframe without the steering gear.

- Remove the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter.

- Remove the heat shield above the right drive axle - arrows -.






- Drain the engine oil.

- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the oil level thermal sensor (G266).






- Loosen the bolts - 1 - and remove the bolts - 2 -.






- Remove the bolts - arrows -, then remove the oil return line from the turbochargers and push it to the right.






- Remove the right flange shaft bolt - arrow 1 - using the (T10107).






- Remove the bevel box bolts - arrows - on the transmission.






- Remove bevel box from transmission together with right flange shaft.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Pay attention to the following:

- Rotate the flange shaft and attach the bevel box with the flange shaft to the transmission at the same time.

- Attach the bevel box to the transmission with 4 new bolts. Tightening specification.

- Install the bolts - 1 and 2 - for securing the bevel box bracket hand-tight.






- Follow the tightening sequence:

1. Tighten the bolts - 2 - to 40 Nm.

2. Tighten the bolts - 1 - to 40 Nm.


- Install the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter.

- Install the subframe.

- Install the right drive axle.

- Remove the oil return line from the turbocharger.

- Check oil level in bevel box and fill. Refer to => [ Axle Oil in Bevel Box, Checking or Filling ] Procedures.

- Install the noise insulation.

- Fill the engine oil.
