Rear Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair






Sealing Flange and Seal, Transmission Side

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hand Drill with Plastic Brush Attachment

Flat Scraper

Protective Eyewear

Silicone Sealant (D 176 404 A2)

Removing

- Remove the flywheel. Refer to => [ Flywheel ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the oil pan. Refer to => [ Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the sealing flange bolts - arrows - and flange.






Installing

Do not lubricate or grease the sealing lip on the seal.

- Clean the sealing surfaces so that they are free of oil and grease.

- Remove any oil residue on the crankshaft with a clean cloth.

- Use the alignment sleeves to install.

- The alignment sleeves may only be removed after the sealing flange has been slid onto the crankshaft. The sealing flange is positioned on the alignment sleeves.

- Tighten the sealing flange bolts - arrows - to 15 Nm.






- Install the oil pan. Refer to => [ Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.

Further installation is in the reverse order of removal.
