Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling

Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling

Note the Following Information:

Use the transmission oil available as a replacement part. Refer to the Parts Catalog.

It is necessary to use the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262/6) on some oil containers.

It may be necessary to shorten the pipe on the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A).

Shortening the Pipe on the Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262 A) :

- Shorten the pipe to 210 mm - a -. This assures the pipe on the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) will not touch the bottom on some oil containers.

Dimension - a - is measured starting from the shaft (green surface) on the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A).

- Shorten the pipe using the pipe cutter (VAS 6056/2).

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Use Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

Vehicle Diagnostic Tester

Drip Tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)

Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262 A)

Adapter for Filling ATF Oil (VAS 6262/2)

Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262/6) (also for some containers)

Requirements:

The vehicle is level and all hoist supports are the same height.

The noise insulation has been removed.

The vehicle diagnostic tester is connected

The transmission oil should not be warmer than 45 °C (113 °F) when starting the procedure.

Test temperature: 35 to 45 °C (95 to 113 °F)

Checking

- Connect the vehicle diagnostic tester and identify the vehicle in Guided Functions.

- Select DSG transmission.

- Select Check Fluid Level.

Let the transmission cool down if the oil temperature is higher than 45 °C (113 °F).

The engine is idling and the selector lever is in the "P" position.

- Place the drip tray for VAS 6100 or the used oil collecting and extracting device (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission near the transmission oil drain and inspection plug.

- Remove the plug - arrow -.

- Always replace the seal - arrow - on the plug.

Even if the level of the transmission oil is too low, at first a small amount of oil will leak out of the overflow tube, because it fills during operation.

- Allow the excess oil to drain.

- Reinstall the plug, with a new seal, as soon as all the oil has drained out (it starts to drip).

- If no transmission oil comes out, then fill.

Adding

- Install the fitting from the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) into the hole for the inspection plug hand tight.

- Shake the bottles before opening them.

- Install the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) to the oil bottle. Be sure to read the instructions.

- Fill with 1 liter of transmission oil.

- Connect the oil filler adapter (VAS 6262 A) to the fitting and fill:

If oil leaks out of the hole:

The oil must not be topped off.

- Allow the excess oil drain.

- As soon as the oil has run out (it begins to drip), disconnect the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) and install the plug with a new seal.

If no oil leaks out of the hole:

- Add another liter of oil. Refer to => [ Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling ] Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling.

Too little or too much oil will impair the transmission.
