Driver and Passenger Side Airbag

• Removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle is described here. Removing and installing on the right side is identical.

Removing

The general safety precautions for working on airbag, belt tensioner and battery cut-out units (pyrotechnic components) must be observed. - Disconnect the battery.

- Remove the left front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat ] Front Seat.

- Remove the trim on the tunnel side. Refer to => [ Tunnel Side Trim ] Tunnel Side Trim.

- Remove the backrest adjustment wheel. Refer to => [ Backrest Adjusting Wheel ] Backrest Adjusting Wheel.

- Remove the seat height adjustment handle. Refer to => [ Seat Height Adjustment Handle ] Seat Height Adjustment Handle.

- Remove the trim on the door sill side. Refer to => [ Door Sill Side Trim ] Door Sill Side Trim.

- Remove the backrest. Refer to => [ Front Backrest ] Front Backrest.

- Remove the cover and the backrest cushion. Refer to => [ Front Seat Backrest Cover and Upholstery ] Front Seat Backrest Cover and Upholstery.






- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the side airbag - 2 -.

- Remove the wire - 3 - from the tabs - arrows -.

- Remove the bolt - 4 - (9 Nm).






- Remove the retainer - 1 - for the side airbag - 2 - from the backrest frame - 3 -.

- Remove the side airbag - 2 - from the backrest frame - 3 -.

Installation

- Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:






- Hook the wire - 3 - in the tabs - arrows -.

- Connect the connectors - 1 - to the side airbag - 2 -.

- Turn on the ignition.

Make sure no one is in the vehicle.

- Connect the battery.
