Front Seat Backrest Cover and Upholstery
• Removing and installing the components is described for the left seat. Removing and installing the components from the right seat is identical.
Removing
- Attach the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) to the engine/transmission holder (VAS 6095).
- Remove the front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat ] Front Seat.
- Secure the seat on the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).
- Remove the backrest adjustment wheel. Refer to => [ Backrest Adjusting Wheel ] Backrest Adjusting Wheel.
- Remove the seat height adjustment handle. Refer to => [ Seat Height Adjustment Handle ] Seat Height Adjustment Handle.
- Remove the trim on the door sill side. Refer to => [ Door Sill Side Trim ] Door Sill Side Trim.
- Remove the trim on the tunnel side. Refer to => [ Tunnel Side Trim ] Tunnel Side Trim.
- Remove the backrest. Refer to => [ Front Backrest ] Front Backrest.
- Attach the backrest on the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).
- Remove the headrest. Refer to => [ Headrest ] Headrest.
Vehicles with Manual Lumbar Support Adjustment
- Remove the lumbar adjustment lever - 2 - using the disassembly pliers (3392).
Procedure for All Vehicles
- Open the retaining channel - 5 - in direction of - arrow -.
Cover with Map Pocket
- Remove the clip - 3 - from both sides of the back of the backrest frame - 4 -.
- Fold up the backrest cover - 1 - slightly upward.
- Disengage tension wire - 5 - on the left and right sides of the backrest frame.
- Remove the clips - 1 - and the upholstery clips - 1 - from the retainers in the cushion - 2 - in the cushion - 4 - itself by alternating from side to side using a small screwdriver.
- Fold the cover - 1 - up further and remove it from the cushion - 3 -.
- Push the cushion - 3 - over both headrest guides and remove it from the backrest frame.
Vehicles with Seat Heating
• If, on a vehicle with seat heating, the cushion - 1 - or the backrest heating element - 2 - is faulty, always replace both components.
Installation
Vehicles with Seat Heating
• The heating element must be positioned so that it has no bends.
- Guide the wiring harness through the lower oblong hole.
- Position the heating element - 2 - under the cushion trench - 1 -.
- Remove the protective film for the upper right positioning tape - 3 - and gently attach the heating element - 2 - to the cushion without kinking it.
- Remove the protective film for the upper left positioning tape - 4 - and gently attach the heating element - 2 - to the cushion without kinking it.
- Remove the protective foil - 3 - and - 4 - upward little by little and gently attach the heating element - 2 - to the cushion - 1 - without kinking it.
- Push the cushion - 5 - over both headrest guides and onto the backrest frame.
- Attach the cover - 1 - to the cushion - 5 - with the clips - 4 -.
- Attach the cover - 1 - to the cushion - 5 - with new upholstery clips - 2 - at the shown locations - 3 - using the upholstery clip pliers (V.A.G 1634).
Further assembling is in reverse order of removal.
