Cylinder Block Overview, Transmission Side






1 Cylinder Block

Crankshaft overview, refer to => [ Crankshaft Overview ] Crankshaft Overview.

Piston and connecting rod overview, refer to => [ Piston and Connecting Rod Overview ] Service and Repair.

2 Alignment Pin

Not installed.

3 Sealing Flange, Transmission Side

With the seal.

Always replace as a complete unit.

Before installing, remove any remain oil from the crankshaft journal with a clean cloth.

Do not oil or grease the sealing lip of the seal.

Use the supplied guide sleeve when installing.

The guide sleeve may only be removed after the sealing flange has been slid onto the crankshaft journal.

4 Bolt

Tightening sequence and specification, refer to => [ Sealing Flange, Transmission Side, Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification ].

5 Intermediate Plate

Must be located on the alignment sleeves.

Be careful not to damage or bend when installing.

Is hooked in at the sealing flange, refer to => [ Installing Intermediate Plate ].

6 Bolt

60 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

Always replace.

7 Dual Mass Flywheel

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Flywheel ] Service and Repair.

Only possible to install in one position - Bores are offset.

8 Alignment Pin

Not installed.

Sealing Flange, Transmission Side, Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification





Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Procedure

- Tighten the bolts in 2 passes in sequence - 1 through 8 - as follows:

- Tighten the bolts by hand.

- Tighten the bolts to 9 Nm.

Installing Intermediate Plate





- Hook in the intermediate plate at the sealing flange and push it onto the alignment sleeves - arrows -.
