Shift Cable: Service and Repair






Selector Lever Cable

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Pry Lever-Rmv Outside Mirror (80-200)

Securing a line to the cable prior to removal makes it possible to thread the cable back in during installation.

Removing

- Remove the selector mechanism. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism ] Selector Mechanism.

- Press the grommet - arrow - forward out of the selector mechanism.






The removal of the selector lever cable only requires lowering the transfer case.

- Lower the transfer case.

- Disconnect the selector lever cable - 1 - from selector shaft ball stud using the pry lever-rmv outside mirror (80-200) and remove the lock washer - 3 -.






A removed lock washer may not be reinstalled. Always replace the lock washer.

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

Ignore - 2 -.

Installing

- Insert the selector lever cable into selector mechanism - 1 -.






- Rest the entire surface of the sleeve - 2 - on the selector mechanism.

- Raise the transfer case.

- Carefully install the selector lever cable - 1 - onto selector shaft ball stud. Do not bend the selector shaft when doing this. Otherwise shifting can no longer be adjusted precisely.






- Replace the lock washer - 3 -.

- Install the grommet - arrow - into the selector mechanism.






- Install the selector mechanism. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism ] Selector Mechanism.

- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Checking and Adjusting ] Adjustments.
