Regarding the repair information. Refer to => [ General Repair Information ] General Repair Information.

Regarding the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF). Refer to => [ Automatic Transmission Fluid ] General Repair Information.

Regarding the "filler tube". Refer to => [ Transmissions With and Without Filler Tube ] General Repair Information.

The Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262/6) must also be used on some fluid container.

It may be necessary to shorten the pipe on the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A).

Shorten the Pipe on the Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262 A) as Follows

- Shorten the pipe to 210 mm - a -. This assures the pipe on the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) will not touch the bottom of some oil containers.

Dimension - a - is measured starting from the green surface in the cap on the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A).

- Make a mark on the pipe, at dimension - a -, and cut it with using the pipe cutter (VAS 6056/2).

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Use Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

Vehicle Diagnostic Tester, for example Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051)

Drip Tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)

Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262 A)

Adapter for Filling ATF Oil (VAS 6262/2)

Also on some fluid containers Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262/6)

Use the ATF available as a replacement part.

- Always replace the seal - arrow - for the plug when checking the ATF level.

Checking

- Turn off the engine.

The Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) temperature must not be more than approximately 30 °C (86 °F) at start of the test.

The transmission is not in the emergency running mode, and the ATF temperature is not higher than 30 °C (86 °F).

The vehicle is horizontal

The selector level is in the "P" position.

- Connect the vehicle diagnostic tester and move through the selections until it is ready for operation. Refer to => [ Tester, Connecting ] Testing and Inspection.

- Press the "right" Guided Functions.

- Select the vehicle, the transmission and check ATF level.

- Press the -> button.

- Start the engine.

- Lift the vehicle.

- Remove the noise insulation.

- Place the used oil collecting and extracting device or the drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208) under the transmission.

- Press the -> button.

If the test temperature: 35 to 45 °C (95 to 113 °F) is shown:

- Remove the ATF plug from the pan - arrow -.

ATF should drain out of the overflow tube.

If the ATF continues to drain out of hole:

The ATF does not need to be topped off.

- Reinstall the ATF plug with new seal and tighten it to 27 Nm. The ATF level test is now completed.

If no ATF drains out of the hole:

- Fill the ATF. Refer to => [ Filling ].

Filling

The used oil collecting and extracting device or drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208) is still placed under the transmission.

- Install and tighten the adapter for filling ATF oil (VAS 6262/2) into the plug hole hand tight with the engine running.

- Shake the container before opening it.

- Install the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) to the fluid container. Be sure to read the instructions.

- Fill with 1 liter Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF).

- Connect the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262) to the quick release coupling and check the fluid:

If ATF drains out of the hole:

The ATF does not need to be topped off.

- Allow the ATF to drain until it drips.

- Reinstall and tighten the ATF plug with new seal to 27 Nm. The ATF level test is now completed.

If ATF does not drain out:

- Fill another liter of fluid. Refer to => [ Filling ].

Too little or too much ATF will impair the transmission. If 2 liters are missing, you should check the transmission more closely. There is probably a larger leak.

Draining and Filling

- Turn off the engine.

The used oil collecting and extracting device or drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208) is still placed under the transmission.

- Remove the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) plug from the pan - arrow -.

- Remove the overflow tube - 1 - from the hole.

- Drain the ATF.

- Reinstall the overflow tube.

- Install the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) to the fluid container. Be sure to read the instructions.

- Install and tighten the adapter for filling ATF oil (VAS 6262/2) into the plug hole hand tight.

- Fill with 3 liters of ATF.

On some older transmissions with a filler tube - arrow -, the ATF can be filled using the filler tube.

- Remove the adapter for filling ATF oil (VAS 6262/2) from the pan and install the ATF plug with the current seal.

- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.

- Start the engine, shift through all selector lever positions, you must remain in each position approximately 10 seconds.

- Check the ATF level and add if necessary. Refer to => [ ATF Level, Checking and Filling ] Testing and Inspection.
