Right Flange Shaft, Seal and Sleeve (Two-Piece)
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Drip Tray (V.A.G 1306)
• Thrust Piece (T10160)
• Subframe Support Assembling Device (3253/2)
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
Removing
- Remove the noise insulation.
- Turn the steering wheel as far as possible to the right.
- Remove the right drive axle heat shield bolts - arrows - and shield, if equipped.
- Remove the drive axle - 1 - from the flange shaft.
- Tie the drive axle up as high as possible. Be careful not to damage the paint on the drive axle.
- Place a drip tray under transmission and engine.
- Remove the flange shaft bolt. To do this, install two bolts into the flange and counter hold the flange shaft using a pry bar.
- Remove the flange shaft and pressure spring.
- Pry out the seal with a screwdriver - A -. Support the screwdriver using the subframe support assembling device (3253/2).
• Be careful not to damage the sleeve otherwise there will be leaks.
• Replace the sleeve if it is damaged. Refer to => [ Prying out the Sleeve ] Transmission and Clutch Housings.
Installing
- Install the seal until seated and without tilting it using the thrust piece (T10160).
- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips half way with sealing grease for seal (G 052 128 A1).
- Install the flange shaft and bolt.
- Install the drive axle - 1 - to the flange shaft.
- Install the drive axle heat shield and bolts - arrows -, if equipped.
- Check the transmission fluid level and fill if necessary. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid, Checking, Draining and Filling ] Service and Repair.
- Install the noise insulation.
