Shifter M/T: Adjustments
Shift Mechanism, Adjusting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Connecting Pin (T10027 A)
• The following points are essential to guarantee correct shift mechanism adjustment:
• The shift mechanism operating and transfer elements must work properly.
• The shift mechanism must move freely.
• The transmission, clutch and clutch mechanism must also be in proper condition.
• Transmission is in neutral.
- Remove the air filter housing if locking pin - A - and securing mechanism from shift and selector lever cables are not accessible.
- Pull the safety mechanism on the cable retainer for the shift and selector cables all the way forward in the - direction of arrow 1 - and then lock it to the left in the - direction of arrow 2 -.
Hold the shift shaft secure as follows:
- Push the shift shaft in the - direction of arrow 1 -.
- While pressing the shift shaft down, rotate the locking pin - A - in the - direction of arrow 2 - upward and simultaneously press it in until it engages in the shift shaft.
- Remove the shift knob and boot. Refer to => [ Shift Knob, Boot and Noise Insulation ] Shift Knob, Boot and Noise Insulation.
- If equipped, remove the noise insulation.
Hold the gear shift lever secure as follows:
- Move the gear shift lever into neutral.
- Install connecting pin (T10027 A) through hole - A - and into hole - B -.
- Now, turn the locking mechanism on the shift and selector cable retainers toward the right as far as the stop in the - direction of the arrow -.
The spring will push the safety mechanism into the starting position.
- Turn the locking pin - A - back into the starting position in the - direction of the arrow -.
• The locking pin - A - must be pressed out of the gear shift unit as far as the stop and it must face toward the rear.
- Remove the (T10027 A) from the holes - A and B -.
- If equipped, install the noise insulation.
- Install the shift knob and boot. Refer to => [ Shift Knob, Boot and Noise Insulation ] Shift Knob, Boot and Noise Insulation.
- Check the shift shaft for ease of movement.
- Install the air filter housing, if necessary.
Function
• The shift lever must rest in the 3rd/4th gear selector lever gate when the transmission is in neutral.
- Operate the clutch.
- Move the gear shift lever several times through all the gears. Pay particular attention to the operation of the reverse gear lock.
- Should a gear fail to engage smoothly after repeated selection, adjust the shift mechanism again, refer to => [ Shift Mechanism, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
