One-Piece Right Flange Shaft Seal and Sleeve, Replacing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Thrust piece (T10148)
• Spindle from seal installer set (3066)
• Slide hammer (VW 771)
• Pulling hook (VW 771/37)
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Drip tray (V.A.G 1306)
Removing
- Remove noise insulation
- Turn steering to right onto full lock stop.
- If equipped, remove shield for drive axle from engine.
- Unfasten drive axle - 1 - from flange shaft.
- Tie up drive axle as high as possible. Do not damage paint on drive axle when doing so.
- Place container under transmission and engine.
- Remove turbocharger oil return line from engine, if necessary - arrow -
- Remove bolts for flange shaft, by installing two bolts into flange and counter-holding flange shaft using a pry bar.
- Pull out flange shaft with spring.
- Pull out seal and sleeve together.
A ridge is located on the internal diameter of the sleeve
- Position puller hooks (VW 771/37) directly behind ridge in sleeve.
- While pulling out, press puller hooks (VW 771/37) forcefully into sleeve.
Installing
- Clean oil seal seat in transmission
- Pull in seal and sleeve together.
A Screw spindle from seal installer set (3066) into the threaded piece of differential.
B Nut M12
- Pull seal with sleeve in up to stop via thrust pad (T10148) by turning nut - B -.
- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).
- Insert flange shaft.
- Secure flange shaft with countersunk bolt.
- If you have removed turbocharger oil return line at engine, re-install it now - arrow - .
- Install drive shaft - 1 - to flange shaft
- If equipped, install driveshaft shield
- Checking and filling up gear oil --> [ Transmission Oil, Checking and Filling ] Transmission Oil, Checking and Filling.
- Install noise insulation
Tightening Specifications
Flange shaft to transmission (conical head bolt) --> [ 12 Countersunk bolt, 25 Nm ] Differential, Disassembling and Assembling
