Selector Mechanism, Adjusting
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Connecting pin (T10027)
• The following points are essential to ensure correct selector adjustment:
• Selector mechanism components and linkage must be in proper working condition.
• Selector mechanism moves freely
• Transmission, clutch and clutch mechanism must be in proper working condition.
• Transmission in neutral
- Pull locking mechanism on shift cable and selector cable forward in direction of - arrow 1 - up to the stop and then turn it toward the left in direction of - arrow 2 - to lock it.
Secure selector shaft as follows:
- Press down selector shaft in direction of - arrow 1 -.
- While pressing down selector shaft, rotate bracket - A - upward in direction of - arrow 3 - and simultaneously press it in direction of - arrow 2 - until it engages in selector shaft.
- Pry boot with frame for center console upward out of center console - arrows -.
- Remove sound insulation.
Secure shift lever as follows:
- Move shift lever to neutral position.
- Guide connecting pin (T10027) through hole - A - into hole - B -.
- Make sure that selector cable and shift cable are inserted into locking mechanisms without tension.
- Turn locking mechanism on shift cable and selector cable toward right in direction of - arrow 1 - up to stop.
The spring presses locking mechanism into initial position in direction of - arrow 2 -.
- Rotate lock bracket - A - back into initial position in direction of - arrow 2 -.
• While doing this, lock bracket - A - must be pressed in direction of - arrow 1 - out of transmission.
- Pull connecting pin (T10027) out of holes - A - and - B -.
- Install sound insulation.
- Press in boot with cover into center console first at rear and then at front.
Function
• In neutral, the shift lever must rest in the 3rd/4th shift gate.
- Operate clutch
- Shift through all gears several times. Pay particular attention to operation of reverse gear lock.
Should a gear fail to engage smoothly after repeated selection, the selector shaft play (lift) should be checked as follows:
- Select 1st gear.
- Press shift lever toward left up to stops and release again.
- At the same time, observe selector shaft on transmission (2nd technician).
- When moving shift lever, the selector shaft must move approximately 1 mm in direction of - arrow -.
