Wheel Bearing Housing






Wheel Bearing Housing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench 40-200 Nm (VAG 1332)

Removing

- Remove the wheel.

- Remove the coil spring. Refer to --> [ Coil Spring ] Coil Spring.

- Remove the wheel hub and bearing. Refer to --> [ Wheel Bearing and Hub ] Wheel Bearing and Hub.

- Remove the cover plate.

- Remove the wheel speed sensor from the wheel bearing housing.

- Remove the bolt - arrow -.





- Remove the bolts for the tie rod - 1 -, upper transverse link - 2 - and lower transverse link - 3 - from wheel bearing housing - 4 -.





- Remove the coupling rod bolt - arrow - from the wheel bearing housing.

- Hold the wheel bearing housing firmly and remove bolts - arrows -.





- Remove the coupling rod - 1 - from the trailing arm.

Installing

- Install the bolts for the tie rod - 1 -, upper transverse link - 2 - and lower transverse link - 3 -.





- Install the coupling rod bolt - arrow - to the wheel bearing housing hand tight.

The bolts of the trailing arm/wheel bearing housing must only be tightened when all other components (spring and strut always) of the respective wheel suspension have been already assembled. To tighten, the suspension must be unladen. Only now do the trailing arm and wheel bearing housing move into the position required - arrows -.





Always follow the order of the following work steps!

- Install the trailing arm and mounting bracket with bolts - 2 - to the wheel bearing housing but do not yet tighten.





- Install bolts - arrows - and tighten.





- Install the cover plate.

- Install the wheel hub and bearing.

- Bring the wheel bearing housing into curb weight position. Refer to --> [ Wheel Bearing Housing, Lifting to Curb Weight Position ] Wheel Bearing Housing, Lifting to Curb Weight Position.

Only tighten the bolts if dimension "a" has been reached. Refer to--> [ between the wheel hub center and the lower edge of the wheel housing has been attained. ] Wheel Bearing Housing, Lifting to Curb Weight Position!

- Tighten the bolt for the tie rod - 1 -.





- Tighten the bolt for the transverse link - 3 -.

- Tighten the bolt - 1 - for the upper transverse link.





The washer - 2 - must be installed so that there is a gap - arrow B - between the washer and cover plate - 3 -.

- Tighten the bolt - arrow -.





- Install the coil spring. Refer to --> [ Coil Spring ] Coil Spring.

- Install the wheel speed sensor in the wheel bearing housing.

- Install the brake disc.

- Install the brake carrier with caliper.

- Install the wheel and tighten. Refer to --> [ Wheel Bolt Tightening Specification ] .
