Front and Rear Mufflers, Separating and Connecting






Front and Rear Mufflers, Separating and Connecting

A separating point has been provided in the connecting pipe for removing, installing and replacing the front or rear muffler.

The separating point is marked by depressions around the circumference of the exhaust pipe.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Body repair saw (V.A.G 1523 A) or

Chain pipe cutter (VAS 6254)

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331) (not illustrated)

Protective eyewear

Protective clothing

Separating

Conditions

Engine must be cold.

Procedure

CAUTION!
To prevent injuries from metal shavings, wear protective goggles and protective clothing.

- Cut exhaust pipe at a right angle at the separation point - arrow 2 - with a body repair saw (V.A.G 1523 A) or chain pipe cutter (VAS 6254).





Connecting

- Position the repair clamp sleeve on the side markings - arrow 1 and 3 - when installing.

- When installing the clamping sleeve, ensure that the bolt end - arrow - does not project beyond the lower edge of the clamping sleeve:





The threaded connection points toward the right.

Tighten the threaded connections evenly.

Tightening specifications, refer to --> [ item 9, 23 Nm ] Muffler Assembly Overview.

End Pipes, Aligning





- Align the rear muffler so that the distance - a - between the bumper cut-out and the tail pipes is uniform on the left and the right.
