Vacuum Pump: Service and Repair






Vacuum Pump

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

CAUTION!
Do not disassemble the vacuum pump under any circumstances because it can cause the vacuum part to malfunction. The result would be brake booster failure.

Removing

- Remove engine cover. Refer to --> [ Engine Cover ] Engine Cover.

- Remove air filter housing. Refer to --> [ Air Filter Housing ] Air Filter Housing.

- Remove vacuum hose - 1 - from the vacuum pump - 4 -.





- Remove charge air pipe bolts --> [ (item 15) Charge Air Pipe ] Charge Air Cooler Components Assembly Overview and then press the pipe down slightly to reach the rear threaded connection on the vacuum pump.

- Remove mounting bolts - arrows -.

- Remove vacuum pump - 4 - from cylinder head.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Make sure vacuum pump coupling is seated correctly in the camshaft.

Always replace vacuum pump gasket.

Make sure lines connections are securely fastened.

- Install vacuum pump - 4 - and tighten bolts - arrows -.





Tightening specifications --> [ item 8, 10 Nm ] Cylinder Head Assembly Overview.

- Tighten charge air pipe bolts --> [ (item 15) Charge Air Pipe ] Charge Air Cooler Components Assembly Overview.

Tightening specifications --> [ 11 8 Nm ] Charge Air Cooler Components Assembly Overview.

- Connect vacuum hose - 1 - from the brake booster to vacuum pump.

- Install air filter housing. Refer to --> [ Air Filter Housing ] Air Filter Housing.

- Install engine cover. Refer to --> [ Engine Cover ] Engine Cover.
