Oil Pump: Service and Repair
Oil Pump
CAUTION!
If metal shavings or a large quantity of small metal particles are found when repairing an engine, this could indicate that the crankshaft and connecting rod bearings are damaged. To prevent further damage, perform the following steps after the repair:
• Thoroughly clean oil passages
• Replace oil spray jets
• Replace oil cooler
• Replace oil filter insert.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
Removing
- Remove oil pan. Refer to --> [ Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.
- Remove circlip - 1 - with circlip pliers.
- Install a bolt M3 - 2 - and remove input shaft from the oil pump - arrow -.
- Remove bolt - 4 - and intake connection from the oil pump.
- Remove bolts - 3 - and - 5 - and the oil pump.
CAUTION!
Do not loosen the bolt on the intermediate sprocket.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
• Replace O-ring.
• Replace damaged or stretched circlips.
• The circlip must lie in the base of the groove.
• Tightening Specifications, refer to--> [ Oil Pump, Oil Pan and Balance Shaft Module ] Oil Pump, Oil Pan and Balance Shaft Module.
- Before installing the oil pump, make sure both alignment sleeves for centering the pump on the balance shaft module are present.
- Install oil pan. Refer to --> [ Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.
